Top Ten Ways to Boost Your Professional Brand

By Leslie Warner, Tufts Alumni Career Services

1.  Join a professional organization; join an organization committee and seek leadership roles.

 2.  Volunteer in your community; be active in a community organization, lead projects and teams.

 3.  Get to know reporters; become the “expert” quoted in the media.

4.  Write for and about your industry; write a white paper, review relevant books or articles, get published in online trade newsletters.

5.  Offer a seminar for your industry or your community; be the speaker or ask industry experts to speak.  Charge money and partner with a non-profit to donate the proceeds.

 6.  Be visible at industry conferences; join the planning committee or speak on a panel.

7.  Clean up your digital dirt; Google yourself,  then rate your online presence at www.careerdistinction.com/onlineID.  Improve your online presence using LinkedIn and some of the other suggestions in the list.

8.  Boost your online profile; add your voice to industry Listservs, share your expertise on blogs or start your own.

 9.  Interview leaders in your field; publish the interview for your colleagues.

10.  Speak on radio or television about your industry; look for opportunities on local cable TV or radio.
