Scholarships,  Fellowships and Summer Programs

There are numerous fellowships, scholarships, and summer programs, generally lasting from three months to two years, that allow students to gain educational and professional experience. They will allow participants to prepare for and have a better understanding for the profession and field of interest they would like to pursue.  These are listed below and are categorized in the following way:

College Access Corps (Tufts University Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship & Public Service): In order to address the urgent need across the state, the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship & Public Service and Massachusetts Campus Compact created the College Access Corps to ensure higher education is an attainable goal for all, regardless of socioeconomic status.

College Access Corps members will serve as the liaison between a college in Massachusetts and a local high school, helping students overcome the financial, educational, and social obstacles that impede access to college. Click here for more. Application deadline is May 4

A Pilot Biopharma Fellowship at Massachusetts Biotech Laboratories: The fellow will be assigned to a variety of functions in succession.  The functional areas include: Quality, Discovery, Regulatory/Clinical Affairs and Intellectual Property.  He/she will be assigned to a specific project under the guidance of a mentor.  Three of these activities will be located at the MBL offices in Boston and the remaining activity will be at the UMass Medical School Commercial Ventures and Intellectual Property Office in Shrewsbury, MA.  Rotation is expected to occur at three-to-four-month intervals.  Details and length of rotations will depend upon the participant’s interest and success in the area of concentration.

Delay the Real World Fellowship will award $5,000 to the twentysomething who proposes the best plan to avoid the cubicle. The winner will be selected on the basis of the quality and originality of his or her proposal.

Arts and Media

Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship: The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Foundation, in association with Ernst & Young LLP, is offering three scholarships in honor of Fred Rogers, the creator and long-time host of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. The scholarships are intended to support and encourage aspiring upper-division or graduate students to pursue careers in children's media and further the values and principles of Fred Rogers' work.

International Radio and Television Society Foundation Fellowship The IRTS Summer Fellowship Program teaches up and coming communicators the realities of the media industry and business world through a nine-week, expense-paid fellowship, which includes practical experience and career-planning advice. Fellows gain full-time "real world" experience at New York based media companies. In addition, the Fellowship provides the opportunity to network with industry professionals, take related field trips, and attend panels, lectures, and group discussions. Students must be college juniors, seniors or graduate students at the time of application. Visit "College Programs" at www.irts.org for more information.

League of American Orchestras' Development Fellowship will select two fellows to participate in a six-month placement at one host orchestra. Fellows will receive ongoing mentoring and guidance from the development director and staff at the orchestra and are expected to complete at least one major development-related project during their placement. The League will provide access to funding in the 2-3 years following the Fellowship for further professional development. A stipend will be provided.
Application deadline is April, 25.

Media and Social Change Summer Fellowship The Northwest Institute for Social Change, located in Portland, Oregon, hosts a summer academic program that teaches and inspires undergraduate students about how the arts and media can bring about social change. A combination of liberal-arts styled coursework and practical hands-on projects, students learn how to gear their media interests into a powerful career. This is a full-ride fellowship with the option of earning academic credit through the University of Oregon. Applications are available on-line at nwisc.com and are accepted on a rolling basis. The New York Media Experience was specially designed to formulate a rigorous full-time semester-long study/internship. NYMEP is only for undergraduate students and only operates during Fall & Spring semesters. Students are enrolled in a 400+ hour internship and also take two 3-credit online courses. NYMEP features personalized internship placement to ensure a strong match between student and site. Students of all majors are welcome to apply.

Orchestra Management Fellowship is a year-long paid fellowship designed to launch senior leadership careers within the field of orchestra management. This fellowship is intended for individuals who aspire to leadership positions within American orchestras. Extended placements with three different orchestras working directly with the Executive Director and senior staff. Seminars on leadership, finance, marketing, development and negotiation. Job placement and career building sessions are also included. A stipend is provided as well as travel expenses and partial benefits.

Education

Americorps VISTA Assistant Coordinators for Neighborhood Networks are needed by The South End/Lower Roxbury Youth Workers' Alliance (YWA) and the Mission Hill Youth Collaborative (MHYC). The organizations are grassroots networks, building collaborations among youth programs and improving coordination and quality of services for inner-city and at-risk youth. Application deadline is April 15 for July start-date; August 15 for November start-date.

AmeriCorps* Website, Database, and Development VISTA is needed by Boston Partners in Education, an organization that strives to help students develop the skills, self-confidence, and motivation to recognize and achieve their full potential. Gain experience creating, editing and updating websites while conducting research on helping one of the oldest and largest volunteer placement non-profit organizations find funding. Education grant and housing allowance stipend available; this is a full-time, year-long position.

Bentley Fellowship at Vermont Academy provides an apprentice year for a teaching intern, who will be assigned a veteran teacher for guidance and advice. Duties of the position also include regular dormitory supervision and athletic or extracurricular coaching. The stipend for 2007-2008 is $18,500 for the year, with housing and meals included. The deadline for the application is April 15.

Boston Ace, an academic consulting and education firm is offering an opportunity for a paid International Internship in Korea. Teach young Korean students the English language while exploring a new country. Must be native English speaker and US citizen. Stipend, insurance, airfare and housing included.

The Chatteris Educational Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization aiming to improve the standard of English and develop young leaders while promoting cultural exchange and global awareness. Graduates are placed into a Hong Kong school on a 9-month contract to act as a Chatteris Native-speaking English Tutor (CNET).

Childs Gallery Fellowship One year fellowship in the paintings division of the operations department at a commercial art gallery in Boston. Fellows receive stipend and health insurance. 

The Choices Program International Education Internship is an initiative of the Choices for the 21st Century Education Program at Brown University. This full-time internship enables one recent college graduate each year to spend a year working as part of a team focused on strengthening international content and civic learning within the core curriculum at the secondary level in the United States.
Applications are due March 15, 2008.

The Collegiate School Teaching Institute Summer Fellows gather to explore all facets of teaching and working within independent schools.  Teaching fellows leave the Institute with access to an elaborate network of teachers and administrators who are committed to helping and supporting their further professional growth.  Selected participants will receive a $1000 stipend, free housing while in NYC plus many meals, and travel expenses to and from NYC.

Cross-Cultural Solutions Students work at a CCS Partner Program, a locally-designed and driven initiative. They contribute to the work of international organizations such as orphanages, childcare centers, schools, health clinics, hospitals, homes for the elderly, centers for people with disabilities, or other community organizations.

Dutko Fellowship A non-partisan Public Policy Management Education Program that provides 10-Month Public Policy Internships in Washington, D.C., for graduating Tufts University seniors. Provides stipend plus health benefits.

Educate the Children Nonprofit organization providing educational and community development projects emphasizing self-help to women and children in Nepal.

English Program in Korea (EPIK), affiliated to the Korean Ministry of Education, was established in 1995 with the mandate to improve the English speaking abilities of students and teachers in Korea, to develop cultural exchanges, and to reform teaching methodologies in English. EPIK extends invitation to responsible, enthusiastic native speakers of English who are motivated to share knowledge with students and teachers.

Internship Abroad at Bilkent University--Ankara, Turkey The university is offering an opportunity to work as an intern, helping to develop the English language communication skills of undergraduates in the School of English Language.  A one-year contract provides post-graduate interns with benefits as well as monthly pay. 

Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) Offers college and university graduates the opportunity to serve in local government organizations as well as public and private junior and senior high schools in Japan.

Let's Get Ready Summer Fellowship: LGR empowers college students to guide high school students through the SAT and the college admission process.  LGR programs are coordinated by two Summer Fellows, and their responsibilities include recruiting high school students and college students and supervising day-to-day operations.  

The Margie and Nate Thorne Education and Collections Management Fellowships: When Shelburne Museum (Vermont) is open to the public (May – October), fellows will develop and implement education programs, primarily with the academic programs coordinator. Off season, fellows will develop the collections database and have other related cataloguing and documentation duties. The applicant will work well with many types of people and work efficiently on independent projects. This is a two-year position that provides an annual $16,000 stipend, housing, paid leave, and eligibility to participate in the Museum’s 401(k) plan after 1 year. MATCH Corps An Urban Education Fellowship in Boston, MA. MATCH Corps is a brand new program modeled on AmeriCorps: recent college graduates make a yearlong commitment to public service in exchange for a modest stipend and housing. Each Corps member is assigned four urban high school student – one each in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 – to build an in-depth relationship for the entire year, and work towards clear goals, in their various classes and on key exams like MCAS, SAT, and AP. The program is an ambitious, intensive, one-on-one tutoring program designed to fully close the Achievement Gap between minority and non-minority students, and between economically disadvantaged students and their more advantaged peers. Optional Housing provided. MATCH Corps also offers Fellows a $600 per month stipend towards food and incidentals, as well as free health insurance. The MATCH Corps program runs August 1, 2007 – July 31, 2008. To apply to MATCH Corps, you are asked to submit a cover letter and resume, with academic, extracurricular, professional, and volunteer/community service experience included (feel free to expand beyond the typical 1-page resume format)...particularly any tutoring experience.

The Museum of Science, Boston Public Program Fellowship gives the Fellow a tremendous opportunity to learn about and experience informal science and technology education and their implementation in a Museum to hone her/his skills and imagination while experimenting with career directions. Fellows provide an important contribution to the Programs area by performing live public presentations, classes for students and teachers, and other similar programs on a wide variety of topics in science and technology. Contribute new ideas, creativity and perspectives to our efforts in informal science and technology education. The National Teaching Fellowship, an AmeriCorps program, is an innovative 2 year leadership development program, offering aspiring young educators and activists a unique blend of on-the-job training and academic study. Fellows have the opportunity to work within two leading educational institutions: Citizen Schools' after-school education programs across the nation and a community partner organization. Citizen Schools' programs powerfully transform the education and life trajectories of underserved youth. Many Fellows also enroll in our pioneering program in out-of-school learning taught at Lesley University, a premier school of education in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The experience is transformative; as part of a close-knit peer group, Fellows at once give back and lay the foundation for careers in educating youth and strengthening communities.  Positions begin in July, and multiple openings are available in MA, NJ, TX, NC, and CA.

National Association of Independent Schools A free Online Career Center where more than 1,300 NAIS independent elementary and secondary schools across the country post teaching and administrative jobs. Job seekers can browse jobs and internships, apply for jobs and post resumes.

New York City Teaching Fellows Join a group of talented professionals and recent graduates who will teach in New York City's high-need schools this fall. No previous teaching experience is necessary. you'll receive a full salary and benefits while working toward a subsidized Master's Degree and impacting the lives of New York City's students. Fellows begin an intensive 7-week training course in June and begin teaching in September. Applications are currently being accepted.

The Pearson Teacher Fellowship: The Pearson Teacher Fellowship supports high caliber college graduates to teach preschoolers in low income communities for two years. Pearson Teacher Fellows commit to teach preschoolers for two years in Head Start and other early learning centers serving low income communities throughout the country. As part of this network, Fellows receive high caliber training, ongoing professional support, a supplementary stipend, and classroom resources. Jumpstart and Pearson are committed not only to placing Fellows in preschools, but also to ensure their ongoing success in the teaching field.

The Philadelphia Teaching Fellows is a unique initiative of the School District of Philadelphia to recruit, select and train outstanding mid-career professionals and recent college graduates to become teachers in the schools in our community that need them the most. Fellows will teach while attending classes to earn their teaching certification. We are currently accepting applications for our 2007 midyear program, and interviews are limited. Deadline is March.

The Putney School: The purpose of The Putney School Intern Program is to prepare young people for careers in teaching. Participants will experience a good cross-section of life in a boarding school that since its founding in 1935 has gained a national reputation as a leading progressive school. To be eligible, candidates must have completed an undergraduate degree in the liberal arts and have a strong desire to enter the teaching profession. Teaching internships are normally offered in two or three of the following disciplines in any given year: English, history, mathematics, science, technology, languages, arts.

St. Paul's School Teaching Fellows take part in all aspects of a boarding high school's educational experience including teaching, coaching, and supervising in residential houses. Fellowships are for one full year throughout which the fellows will gradually be given more teaching responsibility. Fellows will have a faculty mentor who will assist them and serve as a primary support, however fellows are encouraged to partake in various classrooms in order to experience a variety of teaching styles. An stipend of $20,000 is provided as well as room and board.

Teach Baltimore Summer Internship: Join Civic Works, the Center for Summer Learning at Johns Hopkins University, and the Baltimore City Public School System in bringing high-quality summer learning experiences to Baltimore City youth. Participants will earn a living allowance, participate in a 3-credit internship course, and be eligible for an AmeriCorps education award.

World Teach Non-profit, organization provides opportunities for individuals who wish to make a meaningful contribution to international education by living and working as volunteer teachers in developing countries.

Environmental

Colorado Conservation Trust Fellowship Program: CCT's fellowship program places graduates from leading graduate schools of conservation, natural resources, law, and business with land trusts and local government open space programs for two-year fellowships. Fellows assist with such projects as land stewardship, conservation easement transactions, conservation planning, public outreach, legal issues, and water conservation studies. This hands-on training ground assists fellows as they launch their careers and guides them in their development into stewards of Colorado 's lands. The program also provides conservation groups with additional capacity to pursue new projects, increase fundraising and accomplish long-term organizational goals. In addition to specific work for the land trust or open space program, the Fellowship Program includes a unique professional development curriculum that covers a broad variety of topics. As part of this education component, Fellows network with land trust professionals, attend conferences and trainings, participate in community outreach efforts, and learn about current issues facing conservation and the non-profit sector. Details on the professional development curriculum are attached. Upon completion of the CCT Fellowship program, Fellows have attained and honed skills that prepare them for careers and leadership roles in land conservation.

Coral Cay Conservation Expedition Volunteers join major expeditions to help survey and protect coral reefs and tropical forests in the Caribbean, Asia-Pacific, Philippines, Indonesia, and Red Sea.

Earth Island Institute Fosters the efforts of creative individuals by providing organizational support in developing projects for the conservation, preservation, and restoration of the global environment.

Earth Watch Institute Promotes sustainable conservation of our natural resources and cultural heritage by creating partnerships between scientists, educators, and the general public. No special education needed.

Green Corps: the Field School for Environmental Organizing One-year paid fellowships for recent college graduates, providing them with the hands-on training and experience they'll need to launch their social change organizing and advocacy careers.

The Integrated Multiphase Environmental Systems (IMPES) lab at Tufts University conducts research aimed at identifying the source, migration, and fate of contaminants in groundwater. National Recycling Coalition's Annual Congress & Exposition is considered to be the premier national education and networking event for recycling professionals. Apply for an NRC Scholarship to attend this weekend-long conference, held in Denver, Colorado in September, for free. The scholarship covers airfare, lodging, meals, tickets to all NRC receptions and events for the weekend and a year-long, individual membership to the National Recycling Coalition. Recent graduates and current students may apply.

National Estuarine Research Reserves, Waquoit Bay Social Science graduate research Fellowship opportunity on Cape Cod. NERR is offering fellowships for masters and doctoral students to conduct social science research within the National Estuarine Research Reserve System. NERR social science research funds will be provided to support research projects that will provide information needed by reserve management and coastal management decision-makers, and improve public awareness and understanding of estuarine ecosystems and estuarine management issues. The areas of topic are ecological restoration, ecosystem-based management, landscape of seascape change, and climate variability and change). Stipend and funding provided.

Finance and Business

Aspen Re Two Year Graduate Program in Bermuda will include a tailored initial 3 week induction program in London, UK followed by a structured development program to meet individual needs including the study of professional qualifications relevant to their field with a competitive study support package.  The graduates will have the platform from which to grow their Underwriting, Claims or Actuarial career at Aspen.  An excellent benefit package will be provided.

BASE Summer Business Boot Camp at the Haas School of Business at University of California, Berkeley is an intensive, six-week, summer business program that exposes non-business, undergraduate students in arts, sciences, and engineering to the fundamentals of business. Students in the BASE Summer Program will earn academic credit while developing top-notch business savvy, study at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, one of the top three undergraduate business programs in the US, and travel around the San Francisco Bay Area to get business knowledge.

Chicago Summer Business Scholars Program is a three-week intensive program that targets undergraduate juniors and seniors, from a wide variety of disciplines. Disciplines include, but are not limited to, business, liberal arts, engineering and sciences. This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduates and recent college graduates to be introduced to the business principles and skills needed to succeed in the working world.  Students would benefit by learning from faculty at a top-tier school and meeting Chicago GSB alumni from a myriad of industries.

Mountbatten Internship Programme A not-for-profit organization, the Mountbatten Internship Programme aims to provide American graduates and young professionals with international practical business training by arranging full time internships in London. Mountbatten places interns in companies ranging from large multinational organizations to small businesses. Interns work in a variety of fields, but the majority of placements are in investment banking and financial services. Interns also work in HR, executive search, law, business development and marketing.

Healthcare

Cancer Research Training Award Fellowship at the National Cancer Institute conducts and manages an integrated program of world-class behavioral, social, genetic, epidemiologic, and surveillance cancer research. The aim is to reduce the risk, incidence, and deaths from cancer and enhance the quality of life for cancer survivors. Two CRTA fellowships in communication are available, one in the Behavioral Research Program’s Office of the Associate Director, and one in the Office of Cancer Survivorship (OCS). These one-year full-time positions are located in Rockville, MD, a suburb of Washington, DC. The application process will last until April.

Child Family Health International A non-profit organization promoting primary care and Spanish literacy through clinical electives in Ecuador, Mexico and India.

International Health Opportunities An organization dedicated to helping facilitate students’ cross cultural experiences.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington is announcing its Post-Bachelor Fellows Program. The program aims to attract seniors and recent graduates with a serious interest in global health and strong quantitative skills. The Fellowship does not require any background or experience in global health. In fact, we particuarly welcome applications from students in the fields such as Physics, Math, Computer Science, Engineering, as well as the Social Sciences, who are interested in applying their skills to the complex challanges in global health metrics. Massachusetts Promise Fellowship Program is currently offering a position at the Joint Committee for Children's Health Care in Everett (JCCHCE). The JCCHCE works diligently to ensure health care access for children and families. For one year commitment, fellow will recieve loan forbearance and and educational award. Applicants hired on rolling basis.

MEDICO Each year, MEDICO sponsors five to seven field teams to provide free medical care to people in Honduras.  

Mercy Ships A global charity that provides medical are, relief aid, and training for long-term sustainable change in developing nations.

The NIH Academy Intramural Research Training Award Spend a year engaged in biomedical investigation at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Stipend of $21,000 per twelve-month period.

NYS Community HealthCorps Mission of prov8iding culturally preventative and primary health care to medically underserved populations and communities.  The National Association of Community Health Centers is a nonprofit organization.

Operation Blessing International An international organization dedicated to alleviating human need and suffering by combating hunger, deprivation, and physical afflictions in the US and abroad.

Operation Rainbow Organizes, funds, and oversees volunteer surgical teams that provide free facial and orthopedic reconstructive surgery to children in medically under-served countries.

Paul Alexander Memorial Fellowship An international public health opportunity awarded with a travel fellowship, used to support work with an MSH international public health project for at least two months. Applicants must have received a graduate degree within two years after the award travel. The deadline for receipt of completed applications is December 30, for the award to be made during the following year.

Population Fellows Programs The Population Fellows Program's newly redesigned Summer Certificate Course in Global Population and Reproductive Health will be held on the U-M campus..

Project HOPE Dedicated to achieving advances in health care around the world through implementing health education programs.

USC Somos Hermanos Student Immersion Program aims to reduce the disparity in health care access and quality that results when health care providers are unable to effectively communicate with Latino patients due to language and cultural barriers. The Student Immersion Program (SIP) seeks to address the inadequacies of the current efforts to address these problems by increasing the number of bilingual, culturally competent health care professionals. Students live in Quetzaltenango (Xela), Guatemala for 6 months. Through intensive Spanish courses, lecture series, socially and culturally relevant volunteer projects, and weekly activities, the students gain the language capability and cultural competency desperately needed to serve marginalized, Spanish-speaking Latino populations. Application deadline is March.

St. Jude Hospital Dedicated to finding cures for children with catastrophic illnesses through research and treatment.

University of Massachusetts Medical School Undergraduate Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) This tuition-free, four-week, residential program is for undergraduate sophomores and juniors interested in entering the healthcare and science professions. The mission is to increase the number of under-represented and disadvantaged individuals entering in the healthcare and science professions within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The on-line application must be submitted by mid March.

University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Summer Premedical Academic Enrichment Program Program Levels I or II are both designed specifically to prepare and support who wish to pursue careers in the field of medicine. This program is residential. Travel, room and board are paid by the program. Application deadline is March.

Villers Fellowship for Health Care Justice Villers Fellows work in Families USA's health policy department and assist the organization's efforts to improve access to health coverage for all Americans, especially for low-income and other vulnerable communities. Both fellows are year-long, full-time, salaried positions in Families USA's office in Washington DC.

Visions Worldwide, Inc. Improving public health globally by educating and mobilizing young people to initiate sustainable change in their communities.

Wellstone Fellowship  A year-long, salaried position beginning in August.  The fellow will be engaged in health care advocacy work in Families USA's office in Washington, D.C., where he or she will learn about Medicare, Medicaid, efforts to achieve universal coverage, and other important health policy issues.  Specifically, the fellow ill be engaged in Families USA's outreach to and mobilization of communities of color.  Through this work, the fellow will also learn about conducting health care campaigns, and part of his or her time will be spent working with state-based health advocacy organizations.

Psychology

The Devereux Foundation offers a full-year training program to recent college gradates interested in psychology, social work, counseling, and/or special education. This would be an ideal opportunity for current seniors who want to solidify their research and clinical interests through hands-on experience for a year before applying to graduate school.

Public Policy and Public Affairs

The Adoption Law Fellowship Program at Capital University Law School studies a wide-range of complex and challenging aspects to adoption law, including termination of parental rights, parental consent, wrongful adoption, race and cultural issues in adoption, sexual orientation issues in adoption, The Indian Child Welfare Act, and International issues in adoption. Fellows are offered an extraordinary array of benefits in exchange for a commitment to spend at least the first two years of their career working in this area of law.

American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellowship programs designed to provide scientists and engineers with a unique public-policy learning experience.  We define "scientist" very broadly.  Basic requirement includes a PhD or equivalent degree in a social, physical, or biological science, or an engineering masters with three years of post-degree experience.  Fletcher graduates are welcome also.

The AMC Fellows Program is the Army’s premier provider of acquisition support, materiel readiness technology, logistics projection materiel development, and sustainment of the total force to ensure dominant landforce capability for Soldiers. The AMC Fellows Program was established in 2001 to create a multi-functional, mobile cadre of future civilian leaders. The program is a five-year, fast-track Executive Management Training Program with a structured approach to developing Army and AMC civilian leaders of the 21st century. Fellows will enter into a graduate degree program either in business or engineering as well as receive a competitive wage between $35,000 - $83,000 per year, plus benefits. Fellows are full-time, permanent government civilians.

Americorps VISTA Opportunity with the Program for Tortured Victims: The Program for Torture Victims (PTV) seeks to alleviate the suffering and health-consequences of state-sponsored torture. PTV’s clientele consists of refugees and asylum-seekers who are fleeing oppression in their home countries and have experienced politically-motivated violence. The Communications Coordinator will work with the Executive Director and the Development Director to raise the visibility of the agency and its mission through public events, the media, and via PTV’s print and online resources. The position requires a full-time, one year commitment. AmeriCorps members will receive a living stipend and, at the end of service, either an Education Award or cash stipend.

The APAICS Congressional Fellowship Program provides an opportunity for Asian Pacific American elected officials to work with members of Congress from one to three weeks. Auschwitz Jewish Center Fellows Program is an opportunity for six postgraduate students to partake in an intensive study of Jewish life during the holocaust. Fellows will attend an intensive program at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum where they tour the camps, study the history of Jewish, Roma, and Polish inmates, and learn how to use the archives, collections, publications, and educational departments. The Fellows engage in sessions with Polish and German students, which hope to dispel societal stereotypes and prejudices, while at the same time promoting the creation of lasting cross-cultural relationships. It is the goal of the program that, upon returning home, Fellows incorporate the lessons they have learned into their intellectual, personal, and professional lives in a significant way. California-Based Summer Research Internship on Diversity in New York-Based Philanthropy: The Greenlining Institute is seeking a summer research intern on New York-based philanthropy. The intern preferably should be a student from or studying in New York City, to work in our California office for the summer. He or she will conduct data collection on diversity in grant-making and governance of New York City’s largest private and community foundations. The Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL)
Has two summer programs; CAPAL Scholarships and CAPAL Forest Service Internships. The Capital Fellows Programs consist of four individual fellowships: California Senate Fellows, Executive Fellowship Program , Jesse M. Unruh Assembly Fellowship Program, Judicial Administration Fellowship Program. These nationally recognized fellowships, sponsored by the Center for California Studies at California State University, Sacramento, are an outstanding opportunity for college graduates to engage in public service and prepare for a future career. Fellows work 10-11 months as full-time staff members in the California State Assembly, Senate, Executive Branch or within the California Court System. They gain first-hand experience in governing the most diverse state in the nation and a sense of personal involvement in the leadership of California society.
The only prerequisite for the programs is a four-year college or university degree and a demonstrated interest in state government and public service. Fellows come from all economic, cultural, political, career and educational backgrounds, and no previous legislative or political experience is required.

Carol H. Pitchersky Development Fellowship The purpose of the Fellowship is threefold: (1) to help expand the fundraising capacity of the social justice community (2) to offer career opportunities to persons of color in development and (3) to further the understanding of diversity in donor relations. The fellowship program will identify and support persons of color who are aspiring development professionals, have demonstrated a commitment to civil rights and social justice, and wish to advance their careers in nonprofit fundraising. Fellows serve two-year terms of employment at organization in the social justice community. A competitive salary is provided ($40,000 - $60,000).

City of Boston- New Urban Mechanics Fellowship Four year-long Fellowships will be offered in Fall 2008, with one in each of the following areas: Technology, Public Health, Public Safety, and Performance Management. The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Scholarships The nation's premier Latino youth leadership development and educational organization is promoting college scholarships, congressional internships, and public policy fellowships in Washington D.C. DeLeT: Jewish Day School Teaching Fellowship A full-time, 13-month pre-service Jewish day school teaching fellowship, designed to launch people into a professional Jewish day school teaching career in elementary and middle-school grade classrooms. The program includes tow consecutive summers of study at either Brandeis University or HUC-JIR in Los Angeles and a structured program of guided practice during an internship year at a DeLeT site day school during the academic year between the summers. 

Easter Seals State House Internship Program is currently looking to fill internship positions at the State House in Boston. Young adults with disabilities interested in participating in the Easter Seals State House Internship Program should submit a cover letter and resume to Easter Seals. This is a wonderful opportunity for a college or graduate student to get hands-on experience learning the legislative process in Massachusetts. All accepted applicants will need to pass interviews by both Easter Seals and the Legislative Education Office at the State House.

The Fellowship for Emerging Leaders in Public Service offers an opportunity for recent college graduates to take part in an exciting program designed to develop the next generation of public service leaders. This fellowship is available for up to 35 young professionals in their first or second post-college job at a nonprofit organization or government agency in the New York City area. The goal of this fellowship is to connect fellows to leading public service practitioners and to their peers, broadening their exposure to the public service sector, and expanding their knowledge both of themselves and of public service issues. Foundation for the Defense of Democracies Seeking qualified candidates with a distinguished record of academic achievement and campus leadership to join the Undergraduate Anti-Terrorism Fellowship program.  Students selected in early August with a two week course of study in Tel Aviv, Israel and lasts for the duration of the following academic year.  FDD Fellows will have an opportunity to hear from academics, politicians, Intelligence and military officials, and diplomats from Israel, Jordan, India, Turkey, and the United States.  Application deadline is at the end of April.

Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship is a program that provides college graduates the opportunity to work in Washington, DC, with a public-interest organization focusing on arms control and international security issues. The fellowship is offered twice yearly, in the spring and fall. It lasts from six to nine months and provides a stipend, health insurance, and travel costs to Washington. The Scoville Fellowship does not award grant or scholarship money to students. Scoville Fellows may undertake a variety of activities, including research, writing, and advocacy in support of the goals of their host organization and may attend coalition meetings, policy briefings, and Congressional hearings.

Humanity in Action Summer Fellowship Programs is a New York-based not-for-profit organization founded in 1998. HIA believes that an important test of a genuine democracy is how it treats its racial, ethnic, and religious minorities. It also believes that the commitment to democratic values and the protection of minorities cannot be taken for granted in the United States and Europe. HIA provides Fellows with a common educational background, experience working with peers across the Atlantic, and access to a network of board members and experts for lifelong guidance and support. Through Core Summer programs, Senior Fellows networks, and prestigious national and international internship opportunities, HIA encourages Fellows to become global leaders. The 2008 summer programs will take place in Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, New York, Paris, and Warsaw. The Institute of International Education (IIE)is now accepting applications for the Dissertation Fellowship in Population, Reproductive Health, and Economic Development. The two-year fellowships of $20,000 per year will be awarded by The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and IIE. The Larry Kessler Scholars Program is a ten-week professional development internship designed to continue the legacies of human rights advocacy and social justice in the battle against HIV/AIDS. The Scholars program is named after Larry Kessler, who founded and served as the Executive Director of the AIDS Action Committee of Massachusetts (AAC) and was a tireless advocate for people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Massachusetts Promise Fellowship Program: Asian Community Development Corporation - Youth Leadership One-year fellows will develop and lead the Young Leader Network, a youth development initiative which will allow young people the opportunity to build upon their experiences with other ACDC programs and discover new areas in which to grow as leaders.

Massachusetts Promise Fellowship Program: Lawrence Community Works - Young Professionals Initiative The Fellow serving with Lawrence Community Works (LCW) will develop capacity building projects for LCW and implement activities designed to provide academic and emotional support for participants in the Young Professionals Initiative (YP).  For a year commitment and 1700 hours of service Fellows receive $13,000, health benefits, training opportunities, free courses at Northeastern, and a $4,725 educational award. 

The Mountbatten Internship Programme offers young Americans with a Bachelor’s degree the opportunity to pursue a 12-month paid internship in the business environment of a London based organization. The internship year provides practical experience in business, while also developing international and cross-cultural awareness through residence in Britain. The internships reflect different fields including investment banking and financial services, accounting, business, law, HR and executive search, marketing, research, and more.   

The Office of the Mayor of the City of Chicago Fellowship Program is a wonderful opportunity for graduate students who are interested in local government and public policy. Participants have the opportunity to get a broad overview of municipal government, as well as unique, hands-on experience in the development of new policy and program initiatives. Participants research policies and evaluate their potential benefit to Chicago, draft memoranda for senior staff on upcoming issues and new initiatives, and participate in a variety of special events that provide a unique insight into how City government operates.

Paul Alexander Memorial Fellowship: An international public health opportunity awarded with a travel fellowship, used to support work with an MSH international public health project for at least two months. Applicants must have received a graduate degree within two years after the award travel. The deadline for receipt of completed applications is December 30, for the award to be made during the following year.

The Reynolds Foundation Fellowships in Social Entrepreneurship This fellowship seeks to accelerate the preparation of a new generation of public leaders who can bring the insights of entrepreneurship and management to bear on social problems. Open to U.S. and non-U.S. citizens alike, the program enables 25 students per year to pursue masters' degree programs at Harvard's School of Public Health, Graduate School of Education, or John F. Kennedy School of Government. Fellows receive full tuition plus health insurance and a stipend of approximately $21,000.

Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies Program was established to provide professionals from around the world the opportunity to be trained in conflict resolution and mediation strategies and to become better equipped to help prevent and resolve conflict, as well as foster policies and create settings that ensure peace, worldwide. Offered in English, the program is aimed at mid- to upper-level professionals in governments, nongovernmental organizations, and private corporations. The intensive three-month course housed at the newly established Rotary Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand will accept up to 30 program participants per session for two sessions per year. Each session will include both academic learning and practical fieldwork components.

Rotary World Peace Fellowships allow Fellows to be a part of tomorrow’s solution in promoting greater tolerance and cooperation among people worldwide. Rotary World Peace Fellows, who are chosen from a wide variety of countries, can help future leaders advance knowledge and understanding. Located in seven leading universities around the world, Rotary Centers provide Fellows the chance to study in a master’s level program in conflict resolution, peace studies, international relations, and other related disciplines. Rotary World Peace Fellows work toward mediation, conflict resolution, and peace where there is war. Understanding where there is disharmony. Food security where there is hunger. Health care where there is disease. Education where there is illiteracy. Conservation where there is environmental degradation, and sustainable economic development where there is poverty.

State of California Executive Fellowship Program: A joint collaboration between the Center for California Studies and the Office of the Governor to arrange an educational 11-month experience for Fellows to learn about state government while working as a full-time professional in the Executive Branch and completing 12 units of graduate studies.

Thomas R. Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship program provides funding to participants as they are prepared academically and professionally to enter the United States Department of State Foreign Service. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply. The Pickering Undergraduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship seeks to recruit talented students in academic programs relevant to international affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management, and science policy. The goal is to attract outstanding students from all ethnic, racial, and social backgrounds who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career in the U.S. Department of State. The Program develops a source of trained men and women from academic disciplines representing the skill needs of the Department, who are dedicated to representing America's interests abroad. 

Villers Fellowship for Health Care Justice Villers Fellows work in Families USA's health policy department and assist the organization's efforts to improve access to health coverage for all Americans, especially for low-income and other vulnerable communities. Both fellows are year-long, full-time, salaried positions in Families USA's office in Washington DC.

Wellstone Fellowship  A year-long, salaried position beginning in August.  The fellow will be engaged in health care advocacy work in Families USA's office in Washington, D.C., where he or she will learn about Medicare, Medicaid, efforts to achieve universal coverage, and other important health policy issues.  Specifically, the fellow ill be engaged in Families USA's outreach to and mobilization of communities of color.  Through this work, the fellow will also learn about conducting health care campaigns, and part of his or her time will be spent working with state-based health advocacy organizations.

The Zuckerman Fellows Program seeks to prepare leaders for the common good who can bring a multidisciplinary perspective to bear on public sector problems. Open to U.S. citizens, the fellowship enables 25 people each year from the fields of law, medicine, and business to pursue master's degrees at Harvard's School of Public Health, Graduate School of Education, or John F. Kennedy School of Government. Fellows receive full tuition and health insurance fees for one year plus a $30,000 stipend.

Science and Engineering

AAAS S&T Policy Fellowships are on to two-year professional leadership opportunities for scientists and engineers from early to senior career stages. AAAS is currently recruiting phD-level scientists (behavioral/social, biological, health/medical, physical) and engineers (phD or masters degree, +3 years post-degree experience) for the 2008-09 Fellowships that will begin next September 2008, and for the future fellowship classes. Annual stipends will range from $68,000 to $88,000 for 2008-09, depending on experience. Most faculty also receive sabbatical support from their academic institutions while on leave. The fellowships also support scientists and engineers in the fellowships who are on leave from their posts in industry.

The mission of the Alpha Omega Epsilon National Foundation is to provide educational opportunities to women in engineering and technical sciences that enhance personal, professional, and academic development. These scholarships are intended to support this mission. General Information Alpha Omega Epsilon National Foundation scholarships are in varying United States dollar amounts and they need not
be repaid to the scholarship funds. All scholarships are announced in the spring and summer for use during the following academic year. The scholarship will be made payable to the school of the recipient, upon proof of registration.
