Full-Time Employment Abroad

The Going Global Guides has information-packed e-books profiling 26 countries, including an introduction to the country; an overview of current employment trends with specific industry focus areas; directories of professional organizations and embassy listings; financial considerations; job search resources as well as guidelines for job applications; and advice regarding work permits, job interviews, and culture. Students access Going Global through WebCenter.

International Jobs Center: Gain access to international jobs and profiles of major employers in international development and humanitarian assistance. Online access to jobs is limited to "Hot Jobs This Week."

University of Michigan’s Work Abroad Site is a fantastic resource filled with extensive information about working abroad.  It contains extensive links to non-profit and governmental pages as well as advice on scholarships and aid packages.  Also contains information about internships and volunteering abroad.

Campus Career Center requires that you log on to use its search engine, but it has interesting articles and information that you can read without logging on.  The search engine uses specific countries, rather than a general “international” heading.  Has internship listings as well, but the majority of positions are within the U.S.

Hoover’s Online: Click “UK A-Z List” to find employers in the U.K. in various industries, click “Country” to find information in other countries.  Best for students who already know the companies that they would like to work for.

International Monster.com: This is a good website with valuable information and listings for both jobs and internships.  It has a wide list of opportunities many in the IT and marketing departments.  If you have graduated and are looking for a quick list of possible opportunities this may be the place to start.

The Riley Guide to International Job Opportunities provides a collection of helpful country and region specific links. No information about the countries or traveling; only multiple links.

EscapeArtist.com has links to hundreds of job listings, organized by country and region.  There are also many links on living abroad, along with information about specific countries and regions.

ESLCAFE has job listings for teaching English abroad.  Also has a journal of job experiences from several different countries, and forums for discussion.  At the bottom, check “Job Links” for hundreds of job links organized by country.

Overseasemployment is a compilation of international opportunities.

Jobweb is an excellent resource with a number of articles for finding jobs abroad.

Web Guide to International Employment is a great site from Dickinson College.

ESL Employment: Search for the latest teaching jobs and career opportunities abroad in the field of ESL / EFL.

Foreign Policy Association has information for students considering a career in the field.

 

Internships and Volunteer Work Abroad

Teaching & Projects Abroad is an UK and European teaching and projects abroad site. It contains volunteer and work experience placements in five continents. (Sample program: teaching English in Mexico.)

 

Visa Exchange Programs

Bunac After clicking on the country in which you live, you are sent to a site with information on a few short-term work programs in other countries.  The time frame varies by country, but are usually somewhere between up to 4 months to up to 12 months.

CIEE(Council on International Exchange): Click on "Exchanges" to learn more about working, studying, teaching, or volunteering abroad.

Usitie is an Irish site showing opportunities in Africa, China, Europe, and Jamaica.

AIPT: Most of these programs involve training for future careers.

Cdsintl.org is for U.S. citizens looking for internships in Germany.  There are also some U.S. internships for international students.

Amscan.org has fellowships, training, study, and awards programs in Scandinavian countries.

 

General Information

Global Jobs has thousands of global organizations participate in the Global Jobs page including NGOs, international nonprofit and relief organizations, think tanks, and policy organizers. With over 100,000 monthly visitors, many international organizations now use Global Jobs as their only HR source.

Electronic Embassy is a good place to start before you go abroad.  It has a large list of recommendations for Americans as well as specific information pertaining to country-specific visas.  It does not have job listings.

Jobweb’s Resources is a purely informational website with things to think about when preparing to work or study abroad.

Apsia.org has a consortium of graduate school programs from all over the world that prepare students in international affairs.

T-Bird.edu has links to information about countries, as well as search engines for international jobs and internships.  It takes a little bit of practice to locate the information.  The Career Planning link tends to be more helpful than the International Studies link.  The Countries and Regions link provides excellent links to information about each country.
