Washington, DC Interview Day:  Application Deadline - January 5

What You Should Know

What is it?

On-Campus Interviews: Employers collect applications in Tufts Career Connect for on-campus interviews for full-time and internship positions. Employers review the submitted applications and select students based on their criteria for interviews.

Resume Drops/Collections: Employers collect resumes in Tufts Career Connect for full-time and internship positions. As hiring needs arise, interviews are scheduled by the employer and held either on campus or at the employer’s site.

Information Sessions: Some employers hold information sessions prior to conducting on-campus interviews. All students are welcome to attend information sessions to learn more about organizations and available positions. If you are selected to interview with an employer, the employer expects that you will attend the information session.

Job & Internship Fairs: Employers attend the Career Fair in the fall (October 2, 2009) and the Sci-Tech Fair in the spring (February 10, 2010) to speak with students about current and future opportunities.  Many employers build their recruiting calendars around these fairs.

Off-Campus Recruiting Events in NYC and DC: Students submit applications and are selected for interviews by companies participating in recruiting days in New York City (January 8, 2010) and Washington D.C. (February 5, 2010).

Where do I find a list of opportunities?

Tufts Career Connect (log in from the student home page) is the online resource students and employers use to access the Recruiting Program.  It holds the most up-to-date information on employers collecting resumes and interviewing on campus.  You may view Campus Recruiting opportunities on Tufts Career Connect under the "Campus Interviews & Resume Drops" menu.  (Jumbo Tip: Want to know when new campus interviews or resume drops are added?  Set up an email notification in Tufts Career Connect.  See the Tufts Career Connect Student Guide for these instructions and more.)

The Career Services Calendar is updated daily with Employer Information Sessions, Job & Internship Fairs, and Off-Campus Recruiting Event deadlines.

How is this different from any other job or internship search tool?

In many ways, Campus Recruiting is no different from any other job or internship search tool: you submit your resume to be evaluated by the employer and the employer makes decisions about whom to interview and whom to hire.

But the Campus Recruiting Program is also unique. It allows you to interact with many employers without leaving campus, and employers commit significant resources to visit campus for the opportunity to meet you and your fellow Tufts students. Additionally, the Campus Recruiting Program is a process requiring particular attention to details. Advanced preparation, professionalism and organization are critical for success.

Why are there only certain types of employers coming to campus?

Campus Recruiting employers are often those that have significant recruiting budgets, the ability to plan hiring needs months into the future, and/or the need to hire several entry-level people each year. Many organizations do not fall into these categories. Students are encouraged to use other search methods in addition to the Recruiting Program. In fact, no student should rely solely on the Campus Recruiting Program for finding a job.  Start by visiting the Job or Internship Search section of our website or make an appointment with a counselor to further discuss your job search plans.

Is there anything I can do if I missed a deadline or didn’t get selected for an interview?

Keep in mind that the Campus Recruiting Program is just one way of finding a job. Furthermore, employers that participate in the Campus Recruiting Program generally also utilize other means of finding candidates. In fact, most jobs are found by networking, so checking Tufts Career Network for alumni that work at your target organizations is a great place to start.  Visit the Networking section of our website for more ideas or make an appointment with a counselor to further discuss networking opportunities.

Quick Tips

  • Always include both a resume and cover letter in your application. Some employers also request writing samples or transcripts. Transcripts can be copied and pasted into Word from SIS Online.
  • Apply early to minimize your stress and potential technical problems.
  • On the day of your interview, arrive 10 minutes early; dress professionally; bring pen, portfolio, extra resumes and prepared questions. Be confident and relax.  (See the Interviewing Section for more tips.)
  • Follow up. Ask for the employer’s business card. Send a thank you note or email within 48 hours.
  • Campus Interviews are held regardless of weather. Call 617-627-2427 in case of snow emergencies.

Applying through Tufts Career Connect

Check out the Tufts Career Connect Student Guide for more instructions and FAQs.

How do I view and apply for jobs and internships that are part of the Campus Recruiting Program?

1. Access Tufts Career Connect from the student home page.  If this is your first time using the system, click Forgot your password?, enter your 9-digit Student ID (no dashes) as your username, and your password will be emailed to your @tufts.edu address.

2. After you have logged in, at the top of the page, under “Campus Interviews & Resume Drops” click “Search all” to view all Recruiting Program jobs.  (A Jumbo Tip: Leave all search fields empty to view all positions.)

3. Once you have verified you qualify to apply for a job, upload all required documents in the “My Activity – My Documents” section.  (A Jumbo Tip: Name your cover letter with the company name and your name. Ex: Fidelity_Bob Jones.  If you have multiple cover letters in Tufts Career Connect, you can easily select the appropriate one for the company to which you are applying, and the employer can also quickly and easily see whose cover letter they have received.)

4. To apply, mouse over “Campus Interviews & Resume Drops” and click “Apply”.  Under this submenu, you will only be able to see opportunities for which you qualify and have already uploaded required documents.  Click “Submit resume/request interview” to choose documents to submit and complete your application.

How do I verify my successful application or view and change my application documents for a Campus Interview or Resume Drop?

You can view your activity in Tufts Career Connect under the “My Account” menu at the top of the page.  Choose “My Activity” to view details on your applications.  The “Schedules” tab within “My Activity” allows you to see all of your activity under the Campus Recruiting Program.  You may also view and change your submitted documents here as long as the application deadline has not passed.
