Employer Newsletter – March 2021

Dear Tufts Employers,

Happy Spring to all our employers partners!

Our students are in the midst of midterm exams and papers and will have classes end on May 5th. We request that all employers avoid heavy programming during our Reading Period and Final Exam Weeks that will take place from May 6th – May 14, 2021.

We are looking forward to hearing of your Tufts hires for both full-time roles for our 2021 graduates, but also the co-op and internships positions for the upcoming summer. Please send along that information by clicking here: Report a Hire!

👋 A Fond Farewell to Jonathan Sanford, Assistant Director, Employer Relations at Tufts Career Center

We wanted to announce that Jonathan Sanford has departed Tufts to return to the recruiting world as a DE&I Talent Acquisition Specialist at Cloudera. Jonathan has been with Tufts for 4 years and has had an impact in terms of establishing the Industry Night events as well as working tirelessly this year to help make the transition from in-person to virtual.

We are sad to see him leave our Career Services team, but we wish him well in his new adventure. Please see the breakdown at the end of the newsletter for best point of contact at Tufts Career Center based on your industry.

🎨 Art + Design Virtual Career Fair with AICAD

The Association of Independent Colleges of Art + Design (AICAD) along with 20 schools including the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts will host their first Design Virtual Career Fair on Friday, April 16th from 12-5pm.

We hope that you will join us for this inaugural event with 20 art and design schools from across the country. Registration Details Here!

📋 Offer Policies and Guidelines

The Career Center has revised our best practice approach to offer timelines for students. We developed these guidelines using best practices outlined by our professional organization The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) and hope that they are helpful as both students and employers make final decisions regarding offers.

The Career Center team works closely with students around the offer negotiation process, so please reach out to us if you have any questions in advance. Review Tufts Offer Policies and Guidelines

☕ Coffee Hour with the ER Team

We know it has been more challenging to meet and connect with other recruitment colleagues during this time. Please let us know if you would be interested in joining the Tufts University Employer Relations team for an informal coffee hour for employers to share ideas, best practices, and just learn more about what is happening at Tufts University. I’m interested and want to learn more!

🖊 Branding and Engagement at Tufts

We are seeking new and creative blog content that will help inform and educate our students about various industry sectors, recruitment and hiring practices, and navigating their job search during the pandemic. Please consider partnering with us to develop written or video content on the following topics:

  • Employer interviews highlighting candidate best practices
  • Common mistakes to avoid on resumes and cover letters
  • How students can stand out from other candidates in the virtual recruitment landscape
  • Networking 101 with recruiters on LinkedIn

If you have any existing video or written content about your organization or regarding some of the areas mentioned above, please reach out to our employer relations team. We are also open to discussing other topics and ideas that might be valuable to our student audience.

🐘 Coming Soon: Jumbos4Jumbos Relaunching!

Jumbos4Jumbos is an opportunity for Tufts alumni to offer projects and micro internships that will provide current students with exposure to an industry or with a project that will allow them to build new skills such as data analysis, marketing, etc.

This year the program will be managed via The Herd under Projects, where alumni and students receive flash mentoring. The site will make the process seamless and alumni will be able to self-manage and monitor the process from beginning to end.

Employers with traditional full-time positions and summer internships (remote or in-person) can still post those positions on our Handshake site for all our students and alumni to access and apply for per our usual process.

I am an Alum with an Opportunity!

💼 Transcripts in the Time of COVID

How does a student’s undergraduate transcript play a role (if any) in being evaluated for opportunities? Exceptional Pass (EP) has been offered at Tufts since COVID has disrupted the traditional academic structure. With EP no grade is earned, however the course still counts towards major/graduation requirements, which P/F does not.

How is the EP grade viewed on a student’s undergraduate transcript? We would appreciate any feedback you have as to how your organization evaluates new grading models in the time of COVID. Let us know here!
