Employer Newsletter – April 2021

Dear Tufts Employers,

We are coming close to the end of a very different academic year and hope that you are celebrating a successful recruitment season as well as the spring weather so far. The Spring semester ends on May 5th and we request that all employers avoid programming during our Reading Period and Final Exam Week that will take place from May 6th – May 14, 2021.

We are already preparing for the upcoming 2021/2022 academic year! If you would like more information about our Fall 2021 COVID plans you may find them here for your reference. We will be sharing more specific details surrounding employer engagement for the Fall 2021 semester in our upcoming May newsletter.

📈 Exceptional Pass – Quick Poll Results

We recently reached out to you, our employer partners, to get your take on how transcripts are evaluated in light of new grading models due to COVID-19. Exceptional Pass (EP) has been offered at Tufts since COVID has disrupted the traditional academic structure. It has now been an option for 3 consecutive semesters and we asked employers the following questions:

  1. How does a student’s undergraduate transcript play a role (if any) in being evaluated for opportunities?
  2. How is the EP grade viewed on a student’s undergraduate transcript?

Unsurprisingly, what we found is, it depends. While over half of our respondents do not even require transcripts as part of the application process, for those that do, the grade of EP is evaluated differently depending on industry and employer. Of those that require a transcript, roughly half prefer set grades as opposed to having an EP on the transcript while the other half said set grades and EP are evaluated equally. Share your thoughts on Exceptional Pass!

💻 NACE Survey Results: Fall 2021 Recruitment Plans

NACE recently published the results of their survey of employers and their plans for Fall 2021 recruitment. From the data below we see that 42% of employers will most likely recruit in an exclusively virtual capacity for Fall 2021.

☕ Coffee Hour with the ER Team

We know it has been more challenging to meet and connect with other recruitment colleagues during this time. Please let us know if you would be interested in joining the Tufts University Employer Relations team for an informal coffee hour for employers to share ideas, best practices, and just learn more about what is happening at Tufts University.

I’m interested and would like to learn more!

🐘 Jumbos4Jumbos has Launched!

Jumbos4Jumbos is an opportunity for Tufts alumni to offer projects and micro internships that will provide current students with exposure to an industry or with a project that will allow them to build new skills such as data analysis, marketing, etc.

This year the program will be managed via our student-alumni flash-mentoring platform, The Herd, under Projects. The site will make the process seamless and alumni will be able to self-manage and monitor the process from beginning to end.

Employers with traditional full-time positions and summer internships (remote or in-person) can still post those positions on our Handshake site for all our students and alumni to access and apply for per our usual process.
