Marianne Ray, E18, Software Engineer at The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard
1. In just a few sentences, please tell us about your current job/graduate program/vocational endeavor.
I am a Software Engineer on the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard’s Genomics Platform. My team specializes in clinical reporting software utilizing cloud resources, namely the Broad’s COVID-19 Testing Pipeline which processes over 100,000 COVID-19 qPCR tests per day (totaling over 17 million since last March!).
2. How did your time at Tufts influence your career journey?
Tufts’ liberal arts structure allowed me to remain open minded and creative about my classes. I am confident that my ability to delve into physics, studio art, mathematics, foreign languages, philosophy and literature as a Geology major influenced and encouraged my vocational journey from Earth Sciences to Biotech.
3. What advice would you offer to a student who wants to pursue a career path like yours?
Get out there and make it happen! Expand, use, and maintain your network; it’s your biggest asset. Apply, even if you don’t have the credentials. Continue to learn, always. Keep your next steps tangible so as to not feel overwhelmed. You got this. 🙂
