Internship Spotlight: Tanzania Students’ Achievement Organization

Current Tufts student Esther Sagara shared the following about being a Summer Intern at TanSAO (Tanzania Students’ Achievement Organization)

What did you do as an intern at this organization?
I tutored introductory coding to prospective university students. It was a great experience because I learnt many more alternative approaches to solving coding problems as I was teaching others.

What did you enjoy most about your internship?
I enjoyed being challenged by my students and working together with them in finding solutions.

What did you find challenging?
Some students did not have necessary resources such as computers and reliable internet.

What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make the most of an internship like yours?
I would advise them to look tutoring, teaching, and helping others as a learning opportunity as opposed to a teaching opportunity, to assume the role of the student. This will open you up to learning from the other students as well because their inputs impart alternative ways of solving problems.
