Tufts University Employer Newsletter – June 2022

Dear Employer Partners,

We hope you’re having a good start to the summer season! It has been a busy couple of weeks here at Tufts – earlier this month, the Class of 2022 celebrated their commencement, and this past Friday, Tufts welcomed back the Class of 2020 for a long-awaited in-person Commencement Ceremony of their own. Congratulations to the graduates, new and old!

Here in the Career Center, we are hard at work developing our programming for the upcoming school year. As the world shifts *slightly* back to pre-pandemic times, we will be transitioning to a more hybrid approach for our event planning. We hope to be able to welcome some of you to our campus this fall! Stay tuned for more information about our upcoming programming in next month’s newsletter.

In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to us any time to discuss your recruiting needs.

Sincerely,

Employer Relations Team

🌈 PRIDE Month

Team Q and Hope Freeman in the LGBT CenterIt’s PRIDE month in Boston and all throughout June there will be city-wide events to celebrate the LGBTQ community and bring folks together. While the campus is quiet at Tufts for the summer, it is important to highlight the university’s commitment to diversity and supporting our LGBTQ students. The Division of Student Diversity and Inclusion has its own LGBT Center. The center was founded in 1992 as a space for all students, faculty, and staff, and it provides programming, advising, and educational resources. Hope Freeman is the Senior Director of the LGBT Center on Tufts campus. It’s also worth noting that in 2020 Tufts University was rated #1 in the New England region for LGBTQ-friendly Colleges & Universities (Campus Pride Index). The Career Center offers a variety of resources to support our LGBTQ students and we look forward to helping your company recruit and connect with great talent in the Jumbo community.

🐘 Poll Results: In-Person or Virtual Engagement for Fall 2022

As we think about shifting work norms and plan for future recruiting events at Tufts, we recently polled our employer partners to determine your preferences for in-person versus virtual programming. We received 63 responses across eight different career industries. As seen in the chart to the left, 37 employers preferred in-person programming, 21 preferred virtual, and 5 selected Other. The overall consensus across employers and career centers seem to be that a hybrid model would best suit the needs of both students and employers. While some employers appreciate the ease and convenience of virtual programming, others noted the value of meeting students face-to-face, allowing them to develop their networking skills and form a greater number of connections.

Our July newsletter will map out our plan for recruiting events for the upcoming school year, including both in-person and virtual Career Fairs in the fall and spring.
