Internship Spotlight: Goldman Sachs

Recent graduate Thalia Greenberg shared the following information about her junior year internship with Goldman Sachs…

What was your role as an intern?

At Goldman Sachs, I interned as a Private Equity Analyst in their Asset Management division. During my time here, I worked on multiple investments within the secondaries market. My main roles included researching companies in the funds that we were investing in, participating in calls with limited and general partners, creating financial models and slide decks, projecting future financials, and forming and presenting my own opinions on private equity transactions.

How did you find this internship?

I found this internship through the Goldman Sachs career website.

What did you enjoy most about your internship?

The part I enjoyed most about my internship was getting close with my intern class. There were 4 other interns on my team and many more throughout the division. We were able to participate in many fun activities such as golf, happy hour, and going to the beach together. My favorite work part of the internship was being surrounded by some of the most intelligent investors within the industry. I was constantly being intellectually challenged and the support I received from my mentors and coworkers throughout the experience was phenomenal.

What did you find challenging?

The most challenging part of the internship was learning all of the information in such a short amount of time. Coming from a liberal arts school with a sociology and economics background, I felt behind as some of my peers had majored in finance and had a lot of previous knowledge. Luckily, I was able to leverage my experience from Girls Who Invest and educate myself on financial topics that helped me to catch up and excel in my work.

What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make the most of an internship like yours?

I love to learn and educational attainment is very valuable to me. To make the most of an internship, I think that constantly being curious, asking questions, and motivating yourself to enhance your learning is essential. Additionally, creating authentic friendships with your coworkers and getting to know them personally is what also helped me feel fulfilled in my position.
