Current student, Vanessa Mendoza, shared the following about being a Summer Intern at Babbar & Associates …

What did you do as an intern at this organization?
As an intern at Babbar and Associates, I learned how to conduct the application process for immigration cases, as well as a little bit about family law and real estate. I filled out applications for immigration (green card and citizenship applications), filled out forms for applications, and corrected personal statements for immigration applications. I conducted calls to clients in Spanish to clients to gather information and remind them of their court dates, as well as calls about tracking applications. I also familiarized myself with the legal domain to ensure that all new and old documents in the office were filed in the online system.
How did you find this internship?
I found this internship by reaching out to the office paralegal.
What did you enjoy most about your internship?
What I enjoyed most about my internship was interacting with and learning from all the individuals who work at the law firm. Learning from a law firm made up of hardworking women was an enjoyable experience that empowered me. Each person made me feel incredibly welcome, answered all my questions, and spent time teaching me how all about immigration and family law. I found the interactions with everyone at the law firm to be the most enjoyable part.
What did you find challenging?
What I found most challenging was making sure to pay attention to detail at all times. When working the the law field, many tasks require attention to detail to ensure that small mistakes are not made that can affect the entire validity of the application. One mistake, even as small as a name misspelled by one letter, can cause an application to be sent back.
What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make the most of an internship like yours?
I would advise to ask all the questions possible. Take advantage of the opportunity you were given and ask questions about the work you are doing, the work others are doing, the experience of other employees, and the experience of how other employees obtained their jobs. Other employees are the perfect resource for any questions you have about the job itself and the road to getting the job.
