The Tufts Career Center supports students in the School of Arts & Sciences, the School of Engineering, and The School of Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts which is over 7,000 undergraduate and 2,200 graduate students and PhDs.

Native American Heritage Month

We observe Native American Heritage Month in November to recognize the achievements and contributions of Native Americans. In 1990 President George H. W. Bush approved a joint resolution designating November 1990 “National American Indian Heritage Month.” Similar proclamations, under variants on the name (including “Native American Heritage Month” and “National American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month”) have been issued each year since 1994.

Here at Tufts, the Indigenous Center serves as a community gathering area for programming, studying, breaks, meetings, and socializing to support, encourage, and develop student voices, while centering Indigeneity in the Tufts community. Follow the Indigenous Center on Instagram @tuftsindigenous.

Quick Poll

The Tufts Career Center is gathering data on internships, co-ops, and early talent programs in various industries, and we would love for you to take a few minutes to complete this quick survey. We plan to share the results with employers in our December employer newsletter.

Jumbos4Jumbos is an opportunity for Tufts alumni from the School of Arts & Sciences, School of Engineering, and the School of Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts to offer virtual projects and micro internships to current students. The goal is to provide students with exposure to an industry or an opportunity to build new skills such as data analysis, marketing, etc. The program will be managed via The Herd, our student-alumni networking & mentoring platform. The site makes the process seamless, and alumni are able to self-manage and monitor the process from beginning to end.

We hope that alumni will consider offering virtual projects during the upcoming winter break between December 23, 2024 through January 17th, 2025. Employers with traditional full-time positions and summer internships (remote or in-person) can still post those positions on our Handshake site for students and alumni to access and submit applications.

You will find information about the program along with an FAQ and full guide on our Employer Relations website.

Biotech, Health, & Life Sciences Career – Friday, January 31st, 1pm-4pm

The 2025 Biotech, Health & Life Science Virtual Career Fair on Friday, January 31st from 1 pm – 4 pm is an opportunity for your organization to connect, recruit, and network with early talent from Brandeis, Tufts, and Boston University with interests and desired career paths in biotech, healthcare, and life sciences.

This collaborative fair will be held virtually on our career management platform, Handshake. Not only does this provide a more intimate setting for you to meet with students, but you also have complete control over your schedule. Upon registration, you will be prompted to choose your virtual engagement format which includes:

  • Group Sessions: Schedule 30-minute group sessions to meet with 50 students at one time, in one virtual room provided by Handshake (or your own virtual platform).
  • 1:1 Sessions: Set-up these 10-minute one-on-one sessions prior to the fair to meet with interested students.
  • Recruiters & Hiring Managers: We recommend that you have 1-5 recruiters attend this event as all 1:1 timeslots have been filled for employers for this event.

Please remember that employers must build out their schedules in advance of student registration. Students will be unable to sign-up for group and/or 1:1 sessions until you have these finalized and visible in Handshake. We are not responsible for students that attend the virtual event and are unable to access sessions.

For more information about how best to navigate this event, please review Handshake’s Virtual Career Fair Quick Guide for Employers.

You can email any questions you have prior to the event to Susan Atkins,  Associate Director, Employer Relations at Tufts at susan.atkins@tufts.edu. We look forward to seeing you there!

Spring 2025 Career Fair Sponsorships

This past fall we hosted a career fair where we saw almost 2,000 students attend to meet with 148 employers.

Please help us make this coming spring career fair just as successful. We invite you to create a sponsorship prior to the fair to promote your organizations and open positions, internships, and jobs to students. You can select your Sponsorship package when you register for the career fair through Handshake.

*NEW* This year’s Gold Sponsorship has been updated to include the opportunity to table in our campus center and host an info session for students during the week leading up to our fair.

Updated Offer Policy Guidelines for Employers

We know that many organizations will be extending offers for both internships/co-ops and full-time positions in the coming weeks. This fall the Tufts Career Center has made some small revisions to our offer policy guidelines. We developed these guidelines using best practices outlined by our professional organization, The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), and hope that they are helpful as both students and employers make final decisions regarding offers.

Some factors that employers should consider when determining offer deadlines:

  • Housing & relocation — Does the student have enough time to research housing costs and availability in the area of the position?
  • Proximity to graduation — Does the student have time to explore a wide range of options in advance of graduation?
  • Time to make offers to other students if initial offers are not accepted — Will the student pool be sharply decreased by a delay?
  • Prior experience with candidate — Does the student believe a prior internship will lead to a job offer?
  • Impact of technology — How quickly can offers be extended along with offer details, such as salary, benefits, and bonuses?

The Career Center team works closely with students around the offer negotiation process, so please reach out to us if you have any questions.

The full details on recommended dates and timelines are listed on the Employer Policies section of the Tufts Career Center website.

New Areas of Research & Study at Tufts

Tufts has recently added two new areas of study and focus:

Cell Agriculture Program: Recently, the Tufts University Center for Cellular Agriculture (TUCCA) announced the creation of the TUCCA Consortium, consisting of industry and nonprofit members, to support research in a field that many consider the future of food. The consortium will be aided by faculty and resources at several Tufts schools, including the School of Engineering, the School of Arts and Sciences, Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, the Friedman School of Nutrition and Science Policy, and the School of Medicine, as well as the Food & Nutrition Innovation Institute at the Friedman School. Workforce training will be an important goal for the consortium, which will set up an internship program providing undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to work with member companies while honing their knowledge and skills on real world applications.

Artificial Intelligence: Artificial intelligence research at Tufts Computer Science is centered at the Machine Learning Group and the Human-Robot Interaction Lab with some collaboration between the labs. Our work spans many aspects of AI: learning, planning, knowledge representation and inference, natural language understanding, agent architectures, cognitive architectures, multi-agent systems, human-robot interaction, and robot/machine ethics.

Please contact the Employer Relations team if you would like to discuss ways to connect with students in these specific academic areas at Tufts.
