Meet Rebecca Corke, Pre-Law Advisor
I am an Assistant Director and the Pre-Law Advisor at Tufts, and I am excited to introduce you to students and alumni pursuing a passion and profession in the legal field. I am a former prosecutor from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office with roughly a decade of experience litigating cases in district and superior courts. It was an honor to represent the Commonwealth in bench and jury trials and through complex Grand Jury investigations, specializing in domestic violence and sexual abuse cases.
At various points in my career, I had the opportunity to mentor students considering the legal field. Here at Tufts, I strive to empower future leaders through coaching and fostering opportunities for growth. I hope that through these sessions, as well as our programming and experience with employers like you, Jumbos will continue to have robust exposure to a range of legal professions and growth opportunities.
You and I know that those considering a legal career are poised to have a powerful impact on every industry and corner of society. Real world experience is essential to expand the mind, build skills and increase confidence. It is a pleasure to invite you to engage with our talented, thoughtful, and intelligent student and alumni population here at Tufts. I look forward to welcoming you on campus and virtually to meet the future thinkers and doers that will shape our the ever-evolving legal field. You can connect with me at rebecca.corke@tufts.edu.
Pre-Law Career Community Spotlight
Who are our pre-law students? Like most colleges and universities, Tufts does not have a pre-law major. Students’ interests are reflective of the wide range of subject areas in the legal field. Pre-law explorative Jumbos could major/minor in Political Science, Environmental Studies, Sociology, History, Biology, Economics, or Psychology — and more! There are no required undergraduate courses for students interested in law school, but many seek opportunities to learn about government, society, and justice and hone their critical thinking and writing skills. Common areas of interest are immigration, patents and IP, conservation, juvenile justice, criminal law, health law, international law, and policy.
How many Jumbos attend law school? According to Law School Admissions Council (LSAC) data*, more than 100 Jumbos applied to law school last year, and the majority of them matriculated to law school. Last year, Jumbos began their law school careers at top-tier schools such as Columbia, NYU, BU, Georgetown, Fordham, UPenn, Harvard, and Northeastern. Data also shows that roughly 80% of Jumbos that apply to law school take 1-3 “growth years” and join the workforce after graduating from Tufts before attending law school.
*LSAC only reports data to Tufts if applicants give permission, so actual numbers are likely higher than noted.
Student and Alumni Organizations for Jumbos Exploring Law:
- Pre-Law Society is very active. They have a large member base and offer regular programs ranging from LSAT study groups, law jeopardy game night, and Legal Field Exploration Night.
- Mock Trial is large and very competitive with three fully stacked teams. It is 100% student-run and coached, and one of the top-ranking collegiate teams in the country.
- Undergrad Law Review is a new group on campus for legal writing.
- Additional groups on campus with pre-law focused students include the Federalist Society, Debate Society, and Model UN.
- Tufts Lawyers Association maintains strong connections with students on campus through networking and educational events and fosters a professional community for Jumbo attorneys.
The Tufts Career Center would like to invite your law firm or organization to join us for two upcoming events this spring semester. Connecting with Tufts Clubs and Student Organizations
Tufts University has more than 350 student organizations, including pre-professional societies, civic engagement groups, publications like the Tufts Daily, and fraternities and sororities. The wealth of student organizations reflects Tufts students’ range of interests and desire to make an impact — attributes that translate to their professional endeavors.
At the Career Center, we often partner with student organizations to advertise events and hear perspectives regarding employers and events of interest. Read more here about how to connect with student clubs at Tufts.

Biotech, Health & Life Sciences Career – Friday, January 31st, 1pm-4pm
The 2025 Biotech, Health & Life Science Virtual Career Fair will take place on Friday, January 31st from 1 pm – 4 pm. It is an opportunity for your organization to connect, recruit, and network with early talent from Brandeis, Tufts, and Boston University with interests and desired career paths in biotech, healthcare, and life sciences.
This collaborative fair will be held virtually on our career management platform, Handshake. Not only does this provide a more intimate setting for you to meet with students, but you also have complete control over your schedule. Upon registration, you will be prompted to choose your virtual engagement format, which includes:
- Group Sessions: Schedule 30-minute group sessions to meet with 50 students at one time in one virtual room provided by Handshake (or your own virtual platform).
- 1:1 Sessions: Set up these 10-minute one-on-one sessions prior to the fair to meet with interested students.
- Recruiters & Hiring Managers: We recommend that you have 1-5 recruiters attend this event as all 1:1 timeslots have historically been filled for this event.
Please remember that employers must build out their schedules in advance of student registration. Students will be unable to sign-up for group and/or 1:1 sessions until you have these finalized and visible in Handshake. We are not responsible for students that attend the virtual event and are unable to access sessions.
For more information about how best to navigate this event, please review Handshake’s Virtual Career Fair Quick Guide for Employers.
Questions? Email Sue Atkins, Associate Director, Employer Relations at Tufts at susan.atkins@tufts.edu. We look forward to seeing you there!

This past fall we hosted a career fair where we saw almost 2,000 student attendees and 148 employers.
Please help us make this coming spring career fair just as successful. We invite you to create a sponsorship prior to the fair to promote your organization and open internships and jobs. You can select your Sponsorship package when you register for the career fair through Handshake.
*NEW* This year’s Gold Sponsorship has been updated to include the opportunity to table in our Campus Center and host an info session for students during the week leading up to the fair.
Promote Jobs & Internships/Co-ops with Handshake!
Want to share a job posting with Tufts students? Tufts utilizes a recruiting database called Handshake where employers can make a profile and post job, internship, and/or co-op openings for Tufts students and alumni to view. With a Handshake account, you can request to post jobs, events, interview schedules and view/register for career events sponsored by the Tufts Career Center.
If your company is planning to attend our Spring Career Fair, now would be a great time to update your Handshake profile with available job opportunities for students to view. Questions about posting opportunities on Handshake can be directed to willa.mayo@tufts.edu.
