CLIMB UP (Undergraduate Program) for Summer Research is an interdisciplinary, 10-week long summer research experience for undergraduates to conduct research in the biomedical, behavioral, and health sciences. Each year the program brings between 20 – 30 undergraduate students to the University of Buffalo to undertake research in a variety of areas. You can find the list of research opportunities on this website.
Additionally, CLIMB UP provides research mentoring and career and professional development tailored to the goals of each of our students in the program. Students explore graduate and career opportunities, discuss and present their research, network, and participate in social activities.
CLIMB Up Benefits: Dates: May 30th – August 1st
- Research. Get hands-on research experience during the 10-week program with a participating faculty member whose interests are complimentary to your own. The summer will culminate with you and your peers presenting your work at the Summer Research Day.
- Mentoring. In addition to your faculty mentor, you will receive mentoring and guidance from graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and the CLIMB leadership to ensure you have a productive and fulfilling summer. They will work with you on your research project, help you prepare your presentations, and provide insight on careers in science.
- Stipend. Funds are provided for all accepted students including $3,500 (pre-tax), a meal plan, as well as housing for the summer (if the student lives 50 miles or further from the campus).
- Housing and Travel. Housing and travel are provided to students who live 50 miles outside of Buffalo, NY. Students are provided with funding flights or covering mileage for driving to Buffalo, NY.
- Weekly Workshops. CLIMB UP’s BioSTEM Scientific Discovery Series introduces students to research fields available at UB. Faculty from various departments will present an overview of their laboratory work, and will describe their career paths to show students the variety of options they can achieve with their degree.
