Internship Spotlight: SeeDegree

Current student Saajid Islam shared the following about being an Intern at SeeDegree…

What did you do as an intern at this organization?

Software Development and Web Design

How did you find this internship?

I first connected with the company during a course I took last spring, where my team and I collaborated with them to design/enhance one of their products, focusing on improving its accessibility and user-friendliness. After the course ended, the company extended an offer to continue working with them over the summer, allowing me to gain further hands-on experience, which I gladly accepted.

What did you enjoy most about your internship?

What I enjoyed most about my internship was the opportunity to work with industry-standard tools and technologies, gaining practical, hands-on experience. It was a refreshing change from purely academic tasks, as I could directly apply what I had learned in a real-world setting.

What did you find challenging?

The most challenging aspect of the internship was the remote setup, which made communication a bit difficult at times. Since there was a lot I didn’t know or understand initially, I often had to seek guidance and clarification. Personally, I tend to learn best through visual demonstrations, so relying solely on written or spoken instructions (especially with new industry jargon) was sometimes challenging.

What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make the most of an internship like yours?

My advice would be to ask a lot of questions and not be afraid to seek clarification, especially if you’re working remotely like I did. It’s easy to feel lost at first, but staying proactive and reaching out when you need help really makes a difference. Also, take the opportunity to learn as much as you can from the tools and workflows the company uses. Lastly, try to build relationships with your team. Even in a remote setting, having those connections can really enhance your experience.
