The SMFA awards season is upon us. All awards are self-nominated so read on for important information, as well and tips and tricks for submitting a great application. Not only does winning an award feel great and look good on a resume but many of the awards also come with a monetary prize that can help support your work. Winners will be invited to participate in our Year End Show. These awards are NOT limited to graduating students. Click here for a full list of all the awards and their eligibility.
Submissions will be juried by faculty and an external curator. The submission deadline for all of the awards is Friday, March 28th.
Tips for submissions:
- Focus on providing high-quality images alongside clear and concise written components.
- If the application offers a space to caption an image, utilize it to add more descriptive information.
- Use the application to express your unique identity as an artist.
- Keep in mind that with numerous applicants, juries often skim applications—convey your ideas effectively through clear and concise writing.
- Ensure your submission images align with the specific focus of the award. Alternatively, if the award has a broad scope, showcase the diversity of your artistic practice.
- Ask someone to read over your materials before you submit.
