Thom Child and Family Services
Thom Child and Family Services works with over 10,000 infants, toddlers, and families throughout Massachusetts, providing critical Early Intervention and related services. Our dedicated occupational and physical therapists, social workers, nurses, speech-language pathologists, educators, counselors and other specialists are committed to working collaboratively with families, child care providers, and other professionals to facilitate each individual child’s development. With hundreds of employees and 14 programs, Thom Child and Family Services is able to quickly respond to referrals to our Early Intervention, Pregnancy and Newborn Support, and Regional Consultation Programs.

What is a recent development or piece of news in your industry landscape?
In very exciting news, Massachusetts Early Intervention (EI) programs recently received a historic 32% rate increase. This funding boost acknowledges the critical and transformative services EI provides to children from birth to three years old and their families.
What should a student who is interested in your industry know before applying to jobs?
Experience with children and families is invaluable in this field. Having a background in daycare, schools, or other pediatric settings will greatly benefit you and prepare you for the rewarding work of early intervention.
What is a piece of advice you would give to a student hoping to go into this industry?
Immerse yourself in environments where you can work closely with children and their families. Understanding their unique needs and challenges will equip you with the skills and empathy necessary for a successful career in early intervention.
What is something unique about working in this industry?
Working in early intervention is uniquely impactful. You’re engaging with a crucial period of human development where rapid changes occur, laying the foundation for a child’s future. This role allows you to make a tangible difference in the lives of young children and their families, providing a profound sense of purpose and fulfillment.
