- You are a student balancing multiple priorities.
- You are always limited on time and are trying to balance your schedule with classes, work, student organizations, as well as assignments.
- You have attempted to reserve time in your schedule to search for internships or jobs or maybe find you are trying to find research opportunities with faculty members.
We get it. The Tufts Career Center understands that incorporating these career activities along with your other student obligations can be quite challenging.
But we want you to know that making time in your schedule to attend symposiums and career talks can help stimulate what you are learning in class and help you to design your career path. No matter your major or class year, there are many opportunities on the Tufts campus and beyond to attend symposia and other career talks. The benefits are numerous!
Symposiums are a great way to:
- Make connections with faculty and staff to learn about research labs on campus
- Support your peers and learn from older students
- Expand your career circle and network of contacts
- Become knowledgeable about topics of study and possible career paths that you didn’t know existed
- Engage in proactive “life-design” methods to allow you to try out different types of activities that can help you navigate future career options and decisions
The following list is just a few symposiums and career talks that might happen during an academic year at Tufts. It would be a good idea to mark them in your planning calendars and consider attending at least one. If the date has already passed, you can
(1) Find out who the presenters were and what department or organization they represented (especially if they fall within your interest areas);
(2) Make an outreach plan to follow up using our career center tips for networking
(3) Utilize the HERD to see if there are alumni mentors that are working in those areas of your interest to continue the conversation.
