Campus to Career: Tips for Summer Interns

Goal Setting: Start with Intention

Setting clear, personal goals can help you make the most of your internship—especially when things get busy or uncertain. Take a few minutes this week to think about what you want to get out of this experience.

Here are a few prompts to get you started:

  • 🌱 What do I want to learn this summer? (e.g. technical skills, industry knowledge, communication, project management)
  • 🧩 What kind of impact do I want to have? (e.g. support a team project, bring fresh ideas, help with outreach or analysis)
  • 🤝 Who do I want to connect with? (e.g. my supervisor, a mentor figure, someone with a role I’m curious about)

Try this:
Write down 3 internship goals for yourself—one related to learning, one related to contributing, and one related to connecting. These can evolve over time!
