Campus to Career: Tips for Summer Interns

How to Have a Career Conversation

Career Conversations are the best way to learn about any particular career path and from professionals, without the pressure of a job interview! Here’s how to get started:

  1. Identify someone you’d like to learn from (e.g., a Tufts alum, colleague, or someone in a role you’re curious about). Tip: Use the Herd to find Tufts Alumni who have volunteered to have career conversations with current students.
  2. Send a concise, polite email introducing yourself and requesting 20–30 minutes of their time. (See template below!)
  3. Prepare a few thoughtful questions about their career path, current role, or advice they have for someone starting out.
  4. Follow up with a thank-you email—and stay in touch if it feels natural!
