Internship Spotlight: Environment America

Devon Bell is a senior International Relations & Affairs major at Tufts

As a member of the Clean Water team, I strengthened my writing, project management, and leadership skills while contributing to environmental organizing and advocacy efforts.

One of the highlights of my internship was planning and speaking at a press conference to raise awareness about bacterial pollution at Massachusetts beaches. Thank you to The Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Boston 25, NBC 10, and WGBH for covering our story!

I also had the opportunity to educate readers about the need for investment in water infrastructure through Op-Eds and letters published in newspapers across South Carolina, Florida, Ohio, and Alabama. Additionally, I deepened my understanding of the policymaking process by submitting written testimony to the Massachusetts State House on behalf of Environment Massachusetts.

I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to coordinate with reporters, environmental groups, and local elected officials while working to protect the environment and public health. Thank you to my supervisor, John Rumpler, for your mentorship and support, and thank you to Lily Segal for introducing me to this organization. I look forward to carrying these skills and experiences into my future work!
