Current student, Mariana Navas Reyes, shared the following about being an Oslo Scholar/Intern for Center for Applied Nonviolent Actions and Strategies (CANVAS)…

What did you do as an intern at this organization?
As an Analytical Research intern, I assisted in investigating and writing CANVAS publications, as well as developing case studies for a course taught at UVA by CANVAS.
How did you find this internship?
Through the Initiative of Global Leadership under Tisch College.
What did you enjoy most about your internship?
What I enjoyed most about my internship was learning from my peers, who came from all parts of the world, and collaborating with them on projects that aligned with our interests.
What did you find challenging?
Since my internship was remote, I struggled with time zone differences the most. However, it’s nothing that simple communication couldn’t fix. It’s simply about putting in a little extra effort by scheduling meetings in advance and being flexible!
What advice would you offer to someone who wants to make the most of an internship like yours?
Don’t be scared to reach out to your peers and/or supervisors. Being in a remote setting, it’s easy to feel isolated from your co-interns. Don’t let distance be a divisor; take the time to get to know them in one-on-one calls and expand your horizons!
