The VLSI organization at Seagate delivers state of the art System-on-Chip ASICs, which are used in Seagate storage products – hard disk drives, solid state drives, and storage systems. Our group is part of the VLSI channel organization, and we are responsible for validation of the HDD Read Channel on new SoC’s. The Read Channel is a major part of the SoC that has the ECC encoder/decoder, Soft Output Viterbi detector and complete analog front end of the system. Our group works closely with the Seagate design centers, Read Channel designers and architects to ensure proper functionality and design quality of the Read Channel.
About the role – you will:
In this position you will work with the Read Channel validation team to validate the functional capability of the channel and provide feedback to drive teams and designers on current Read Channel signal capabilities. The testing of our Read Channel is mainly done with lab bench level setups where the blocks of the Read Channel are tested and validated. This role will include Read Channel programming, data collection/analysis and performing experiments to assess channel features.
You will be responsible for performing tests, analyzing the data, and documenting the test procedure and results.

Your experience includes:
- Junior or Senior student working toward a BS degree in Electrical Engineering and enrolled in Fall 2024 classes.
- Classroom/lab experience using digital oscilloscopes and PC based test systems.
- Programming skills in languages such as Python, Matlab, or C/C++
- Familiarity with analog and digital circuit operations
