This is a Full-Time 40 Hour Weekly position with the Department of Labor and Regulations. For more information on the Department of Labor and Regulations, please visit https://dlr.sd.gov/.
This position will facilitate and/or coordinate work-based learning experiences for students, including:
- establish connections and partnerships with regional businesses and industry;
- serve as a liaison between businesses and educators to coordinate processes, procedures and systems for work-based learning opportunities (examples: industry tours, guest speakers, job shadows, internships, etc.);
- build relationships with post-secondary providers in the area and connect students to these opportunities;
- connect area employers with schools to create work-based learning opportunities;
- administrative duties;
- assess the work-based needs of schools and develop an implementation plan to provide such services;
- determine which services should be provided that aren’t being provided currently by school personnel to avoid duplication of offered services;
- establish and document quarterly and annual reports;
- establish a relationship with and collaborate with a region of schools;
- work-based learning support and standards for documentation; and
- support and collaborate on agency and inter-agency initiatives.
Travel to communities and schools within your assigned region; mostly day trips, and some overnight. Location negotiable within region you are serving, you must live in the region you are serving. Southwest Regional School Districts: Bennett County, Belle Fourche, Crazy Horse, Custer, Douglas, Edgemont, Haakon, Hill City, Hot Springs, Jones County, Kadoka, Lead-Deadwood, Little Wound, Lyman, Meade, New Underwood, Newell, Oelrichs, Oglala Lakota County, Pine Ridge, Rapid City, Rapid City Catholic, Rapid City Christian, Red Cloud Indian School, Spearfish, St. Francis Indian School, Todd County, White River and Wall.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Preferred candidates will have a Gold National Career Readiness Certificate and a strong motivation to create opportunities to benefit students and the workforce, a mind for service, initiative to make things happen, and the ability to anticipate needs.
Knowledge of:
- Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Career Clusters;
- state and national trends in career education and workforce development;
- effective strategies to engage with business and industry; and
- workforce programs, including WIOA.
Skill to:
- communicate ideas and information plainly and engagingly to students, adults, and businesses;
- meet new people and establish professional partnerships;
- complete high-quality work with appropriate technology (examples: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, SharePoint, webinars, online surveys/forms);
- maintain confidentiality; and
- have a strong initiative and attention to detail.
Ability to:
- provide engaging and meaningful career launch services including presentations and individual conversations with schools and teachers;
- consistently prioritize competing demands and follow through to completion;
- deal with others tactfully;
- solve problems; and
- model best practices.
