Tufts alumni will share their varied experiences in the fields of international affairs and policy, including what the day-to-day work entails; ways to prepare oneself for potential careers, both while at Tufts and beyond; tips for standing out as a candidate for jobs and internships; and what they wish they would’ve known when they were in your shoes. The moderated conversation will be followed by an opportunity for Q&A.

MEET THE PANELISTS
Daphne McCurdy is the Foreign Policy Advisor to U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley. Previously, Daphne served at USAID and the Department of State where she oversaw stabilization and countering violent extremism efforts across the Middle East. She has also worked for the Century Foundation, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the Project on Middle East Democracy, the United Nations, and the National Endowment for Democracy’s core institutes both in DC, including field experience in Turkey, Egypt, and Kenya. Her analysis on the Middle East has been published in The Atlantic, Foreign Policy, War on the Rocks, among others, and her longer reports with the Center for New American Security (CNAS), CSIS, and TCF. She is a Council on Foreign Relations term member, Truman National Security Project fellow, 2020 CNAS Shawn Brimley Next Generation National Security Leaders fellow, a 2008 Fulbright scholar in Turkey, and a board member of Rhize, a non-profit dedicated to supporting grassroots movements across the world. Daphne holds an M.P.A from Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs and a B.A. magna cum laude in international relations and economics from Tufts University. She speaks fluent Turkish and has varying degrees of proficiency in French, Arabic, and Persian.
Kai Abe McGuire is an Associate with McLarty Associates, a strategic advisory firm based in Washington, DC. He specializes in Northeast Asia and Japan while also taking on a broad array of global client work. He was previously a Congressional Coordinator in the Congressional Affairs Section of the Embassy of Japan in Washington, DC, where he worked on US-Japan relations on the Hill. Previously, Kai worked at the Massachusetts State House of Representatives, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Japan Chair, and the House of Representatives of the National Diet of Japan. Kai speaks Japanese and Russian and has lived in Japan, Russia, the Republic of Georgia, and the United Kingdom in addition to the United States. He is a graduate of Tufts University where he double-majored in International Relations and Russian and Eastern European Studies, and calls Tokyo, Japan and Dennis, Massachusetts home.
