Ascendant Group is seeking a highly motivated Data Analyst Intern. The ideal candidate would be reliable, personable, and team-oriented with the drive to take on new responsibilities and embrace emerging technologies. You will leverage in house data models, visualization tools , and measures to facilitate data insight across business units. The Data Analyst, Internal Audit will focus on driving data analytics/data science efforts that support internal audits and the development of a continuous auditing program. The position provides knowledge and experience of information systems, data analytics, data science, advanced data analysis tools and techniques, operational audit processes and objectives, and business processes. This position will work on large complex financial and non-financial problems using large datasets and apply array of advanced data science technologies. You will also have opportunities to automate data pipelines and document data stewardship processes.
The responsibilities of the individual in this position include:
Assist in the main tenance of data, and creation of written procedures
Automate recurring reports and finding easier ways to retrieve data
Analyze data and contribute to action plans
Create insightful push reporting.
Work with others to define and document requirements for analysis.
Design and implement and document new database/constructs that leverage existing patterns/design to support new requirements.
Maintain existing analytics reports including fixing errors, updating infrastructure, etc.
Develop descriptive (feature usage, machine configuration, etc), diagnostic (cause/effect, relationships), and/or predictive (likely field service calls) views of the data in Tableau.
Identify patterns, trends, significant messages/actions from those views. Ability to perform statistical analysis would be very helpful here.
Present finding/analysis in management forums.
Create end user documentation.
Assist end users in further analysis.
An undergraduate student registered in an accredited university progressing towards a bachelor’s degree in: Computer Science, Accounting, Economics, Finance, or Business. Concentration in Finance preferred.
Must possess a strong desire to work in investment management.
Must be comfortable accepting assignments from a variety of people with the ability to work and communicate effectively in teams and independently.
Detail oriented with an eye for quality.
Analytical, highly organized and a quick learner.
Proactive in seeking clarification regarding deliverables and time frames.
Eager to offer to help others when appropriate.
Possess a technical aptitude and have intermediate/advanced Excel skills (pivot tables and/or VBA a plus) as well as strong PowerPoint skills.
Experience with Python or other data pipeline programming languages such as R Working knowledge of SQL preferred
