Overview

CAMRIS is seeking a Phage Immunologist to support the Walter Reed Army Istitute of Research (WRAIR) Wound Infection Department.

WRAIR aims to conduct biomedical research that is responsive to Department of Defense and US Army requirements and delivers life-saving products including knowledge, technology and medical material that sustain the combat effectiveness of the Warfighter.

WRAIR’s vision is to be the premier DoD biomedical research organization, constantly relevant, integrating basic research and advanced technology that protects, projects, and sustains the Warfighter today, invents global medical solutions for the future, and keeps the Warfighter on point for the Nation. WRAIR host three Centers of Excellence for Military Psychiatry and Neuroscience Research, Military Infectious Disease Research, and Enabling Capabilities Research; each center ranging from blast induced neurotrauma to malaria vaccine development.

This position is for a proposal.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research on trauma physiology and microbial pathogens of military relevance simulating combat wound injury to include immunopathogenesis and animal testing (a minimum of five studies or as required).
  • Develop and recommend research protocols and experimental techniques on trauma-related infections for submission and approval by the Department chief (a minimum of five studies or as required) and report to the COR annually. Protocol due dates will be set by funding agencies and branch. Status updates of this task shall be included in the monthly report.
  • Draft grant proposals on trauma-related infections for submission and approval by the department chief and research steering committees (a minimum of five proposals or as required) and report to the COR annually. Proposal due dates will be set by funding agencies. Status updates of this task shall be included in the monthly report.
  • Conduct research on projects associated with trauma-related infections by one or more of the ESKAPEE pathogens (Enterococcus species, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter cloacae, and Escherichia coli) (a minimum of 5 studies or as required).
  • Plan, coordinate and perform microbiological studies on trauma physiology and immunology, to include animal modeling, under biosafety level 2 (a minimum of five studies or as required).

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or MS in Microbiology, Immunology, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or other related scientific field.
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas: microbial and phage biology, molecular biology
