Seasonal – Activity Coordinator I: Youth Valleyball

We are in search of Activity Coordinator for our Spring Volleyball instruction. The Activity Coordinator will act as primary representative of the department on site during league events and will have supervisory responsibility over staff and participants. The qualified individual should have a strong working knowledge of the sport they are interested in supervising, be passionate about creating a positive environment for learning, and have the capability of serving as an instructor while coordinating the program.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Preseason: Assist with the organization of class rosters and schedules, assist in the recruitment and training of tennis instructors.
  • Coordinate coach equipment handout and tracking
  • Coordinate staff scheduling, training and performance evaluations.
  • Provide ongoing training and expertise to volunteer coaches as needed.
  • Act as the primary APRD program representative / liaison during league play, providing a high level of personal visibility and customer service.
  • Communicate professionally with program participants; respond to inquiries in a timely and helpful manner.
  • Review and uphold the game rules and program policies with staff, coaches, and participants.
  • Perform set-up and take-down of program related equipment.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Check field / site conditions; coordinate with program supervisor to make decisions about weather / cancelations.
  • Manage and track supplies and equipment.
  • Data entry of payroll and attendance
  • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
  • Communicate with Recreation Supervisor clearly, effectively and regularly.
  • Work closely with the Parks & Recreation Dept. staff and volunteers to ensure all department rules and policies are observed.

Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION: High School Graduate/GED
EXPERIENCE: Experience working with both children. Strong knowledge of volleyball. Has the ability to interpret the rules and make decisions that help promote and uphold the program vision.

  • Ability to work the duration of the program as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Ability to provide strong leadership and establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, participants and the public.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid (training provided if needed).
  • Ability to effectively supervise and train staff.
  • Ability to effectively carry out oral and written instructions, meet time lines.
  • Ability to operate computer and software used by the Department.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Shall wear Parks and Recreation staff uniform per the City of Appleton dress code.
  • Adhere to and implement the City of Appleton and Departmental policies and procedures.
  • Hold valid driver’s license and have a safe driving record.

Supplemental Information

Typical work schedule for a Volleyball Instructor is between Mondays 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m.
March 11-April 15 (No camp March 25 or April 1.) An opportunity for some preparation hours.

Location of work: Einstein Middle School

The Volleyball Activity Coordinator will lead instructional classes for youth in grades 3rd through 6th grade. Candidates should have a strong knowledge of the fundamentals of volleyball, be able to develop daily lesson plans, and be able to communicate confidently and in an encouraging manner.
