The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget is looking for enthusiastic interns to join our team. We are a nonpartisan, non-profit organization committed to educating the public on issues with significant fiscal policy impact. Our bipartisan leadership comprises some of the nation’s leading budget experts, which has included many past heads of the House and Senate Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Government Accountability Office.

We welcome applications from highly motivated undergraduate or graduate students year-round, though interns typically work for one semester (Fall, Spring, or Summer). Interns may work full-time or part-time while attending classes. Interns work as a full member of their respective team, attending meetings and working alongside full-time staff members. All interns will be paid the DC minimum wage.

This internship is located at our offices in Washington, DC. We are currently working in a hybrid environment; interns will be expected to work in person on days when the staff are working in the office.

Below are descriptions of the intern responsibilities for each team. Applicants should specify in their email subject line and cover letter which team they would like to work with. There will also be opportunities for interns to work with other departments on crossover projects.

The  Legislative  team conducts outreach to policymakers and their staff, working with them to advance fiscally responsible policies. Responsibilities will include watching committee hearings; tracking House and Senate floor activity; researching policymakers’ positions; drafting blogs, memos, outreach to Capitol Hill, and summaries of legislation; and scheduling meetings, attending meetings, and taking notes. Previous experience on Capitol Hill is a plus but not required. Legislative interns will often collaborate with the Policy team.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in or recent completion of an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Previous experience on Capitol Hill is a plus but not required
  • Interest in fiscal, federal budget, and economic policy issues
  • Proven research and analytical skills
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Familiarity with internet research tools
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Be a flexible and enthusiastic team player
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Email a resume and cover letter to internship@crfb.org. No phone calls, please. When applying, please write your name, the team you are applying for, and the term you are applying for (e.g. Summer 2025) in the subject line – i.e. “Your Name – Legislative Internship – Fall 2025.”

Applicants must be currently eligible to be employed in the United States.

Hourly Wage: $17.50/hour
