The Department of Biology at Gonzaga University invites applications for a Biology Lab Coordinator to prepare laboratory facilities for the teaching of multi-section laboratory courses, to assist with the implementation of lab curricula, to teach lab sections, and to supervise teaching assistants and student workers. The labs are the first semester component of the HHMI SEA-PHAGES program (Science Education Alliance – Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science), which is a course-based undergraduate research experience. Students use microbiology and molecular techniques to discover, purify, and characterize bacteriophages from soil.
The Lab Coordinator will prepare cultures and reagents for the labs, supervise student assistants, coordinate the implementation of the curriculum, and teach several lab sections each semester. We seek applicants who have training or experience in microbiology and/or molecular biology, and who have an interest in undergraduate education.
Experience teaching laboratory courses
Experience supervising employees or student employees.
Experience preparing and maintaining microbiology laboratory cultures, materials, and supplies.
Experience supervising student employees in a lab environment.
