The iCivics Curriculum Team seeks a bright and enthusiastic intern to prepare for and support teaching for the upcoming school year. This internship runs from the summer through the fall semester. You will gain skills in educational pedagogy, graphic design, research, and systems management as you help create and edit new and existing resources. Intimate knowledge of or interest in learning how Indigenous, Latino/a, Asian, and Black histories—as well as the narratives of other traditionally underrepresented groups—intersect with American government and history is a plus but not required.
Some of the tasks you will be responsible for include:
- Engage with a dynamic team of curriculum writers in the planning and design of resources to advance racial equity and inclusion in the field of civics
- Brainstorm and research curricular innovations and resources in development
- Assist with routine updates to curriculum
- Review and create layouts for upcoming lesson plans and student activities
- Respond to email requests for access to resources and technical help
- Other tasks as assigned
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a passion for civics, K-12 education, equity, writing, or another related field
- Be able to dedicate 15-20 hours/weekly to iCivics curriculum efforts via a virtual setting
- Be self-driven, responsible, and detail-oriented
- Enjoy fast-paced work environments and changing tasks
- Experience with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Adobe Creative Suite (Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop) preferred
