The Sewing Labs works to alleviate poverty by teaching participants the skill of sewing with the goal of giving them a skill which will lead to employment and entrepreneurship. The Sewing Labs is an inclusive and welcoming community teaching the legacy of sewing for employment, entrepreneurship, and enrichment. The Sewing Labs is partnered with nonprofits throughout Kansas City to secure individuals who find themselves in at risk situations. Simultaneously, we are partnered with employers and entrepreneurs who are actively seeking trained stitchers.
The objective of the Outreach Specialist is to secure reliable partnerships with local and state government workforce agencies, area non-profit agencies, and regional employers to provide a steady stream of funded students for The Sewing Labs programs and in turn raising The Sewing Labs awareness. This effort will increase the number of students, volunteers & donors, sustaining The Sewing Labs growth & ability to train in a necessary skill and therefore put more people back to work in our community.
