Landmark High School Special Education Teacher
Landmark School is a coeducational, residential high school for students with language-based learning disabilities. Students at the school come from a variety of national, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. All students have average to above average intelligence, but also have language-based learning disabilities (LBLDs) that have made education a very difficult process. LBLDs fall under the broader category of specific learning disabilities (SLD) and include disabilities such as dyslexia and dysgraphia. We recognize that every student is different and so we individualize a program based on their specific needs throughout their time here. The Landmark approach empowers students to reach their academic and social potential. Our mission is important, and we welcome candidates who add to the diversity of our community and demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion in their work.
High School Teacher Residency: Faculty members at Landmark School benefit from the structure, support, and mentorship of our unique Teacher Residency Program. The program specifically and purposefully supports and trains teachers during their first five years at Landmark as they become master special educators. Participants gain hands-on skills in the classroom and the Residential Life Program (High School only) and are enrolled in a fully subsidized Master of Education Degree in Special Education from Boston University, Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. At a time when being or becoming a teacher is more challenging than ever, Landmark offers a support network to help our teachers feel successful, empowered and supported to make a difference in our student’ lives and forge meaningful connections.
Teaching Responsibilities
- Teach six class periods (classes or tutorials)
- Work collaboratively with supervisors to create the diagnostic for tutorial or class curriculum
- Meet with supervisors on regular basis for curriculum support and behavior management techniques
- Design and implement appropriate lesson plans
- Attend scheduled departmental or Advisor meetings
- Submit quarterly reports in a timely manner
- Track, monitor, and report on IEP goals and objectives for funded students
Student Life Coverage Responsibilities
- Provide weekday dorm coverage as assigned by Student Life Department
- Weekend Residential coverage commensurate with years of service.
- Attend scheduled house and/or coverage team meetings
