This position is located in Wolfeboro, NH, and is hosted by GALA Community Center DBA Makers Mill. Makers Mill is Carroll County’s first dedicated community makerspace and vocation hub due to open late 2021. It will facilitate collaboration, mentorship, and learning exchanges around a wide variety of crafts, skills, technologies, and arts for personal, professional, and community goals, including a FabLab and workspaces for learning multimedia and computer, metalwork and machinery, woodwork, fabric and fine arts, jewelry making, and culinary arts.
We are looking to strengthen established collaborations with key secondary and postsecondary institutions, as well as local businesses and stakeholders, to identify, formulate and operate maker-centered learning programs related to workforce development, entrepreneurship, and the creative process, including STEM mentorship. A Maker Fellow would play an important role in this partnership and program development, as well as with DEI policy development, and capacity building to provide support for the logistics associated with the opening and operations of the makerspace.
As a Maker Fellow, you will join a cohort of 32 AmeriCorps VISTA members placed at leading organizations across the country and participate in a year-long structured and collaborative learning pathway. Benefits include a living stipend of $13,362.70/year, a $400/month housing stipend, a Segal Education Award of $6,195 upon successful completion or end of year cash stipend of $1,800, healthcare coverage, and child care subsidy.
Maker Fellow VISTAs will support the unique learnings and social outcomes that can be achieved when communities support maker-centered learning. Together we will inspire academic and emotional growth that will lead to broader levels of innovation, economic competitiveness and equity for generations in the future. This program is being implemented in partnership with other leading organizations, including the National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE).
