Medical Care Development International (MCDI) is the International Division of Medical Care Development, Inc. (MCD), a non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Maine. Since 1977, MCDI has provided technical assistance to over 40 countries and institutions in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, and the Middle East. MCDI implements a variety of health programs in areas that include HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health (MCH), malaria, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), performance-based financing (PBF), TB in Africa with funding from USAID, the World Bank, the Global Fund for AIDS, TB and Malaria (GFATM), the Global Sanitation Fund, UNICEF, non-USG public donors and commercial sector donors.

Overview of the Position

Medical Care Development Inc., is actively seeking a Senior Communications Associate to support the International Division in its strategic mission to communicate its accomplishments more effectively and aid in business development efforts. This position will work closely with program staff, field staff and the business development team to promote MCDI online and in print. The Senior Communications Associate will also be responsible for the editing and styling of key deliverable documents.

Responsibilities

1. Develop and implement Communications and Marketing strategies and annual plans;

2. Participate in MCD-wide strategic communications initiatives;

3. Coordinate content development/editing for MCDI’s website;

4. Manage the preparation and dissemination of the bi-weekly internal MCDI newsletter;

5. Manage MCDI’s social media platforms (content creation, distribution, monitoring, etc.);

6. Develop and update communications and marketing materials;

7. Responsible for graphic design of communications and marketing materials (both online and in

print);

8. Work with and support field staff to generate communications content such as project-specific

social media, project websites, or working with the local press;

9. Proofreading, editing and ensuring the quality of content and professional layout of all written

materials produced by MCDI for public consumption;

10. Ensure MCDI’s printed communications materials are routinely in stock;

11. Develop and/or maintain a list of media and industry contacts for targeted outreach in international

development;

12. Provide support, training/mentoring for field office staff to improve

their communications skills and knowledge in photography, writing and networking, etc.;

13. Participate in conferences, workshops and other public health events;

14. Other content creation and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

1. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English or other social sciences; Related

Master’s degree a plus;

2. At least 3 to 5 years of relevant or progressive experience in communications and marketing;

3. Excellent grasp of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram) and other

digital tools to successfully engage audiences;

4. Excellent writing and communications skills, grammar and command of the English language; French or Spanish reading and writing proficiency is advantageous;

5. Experience and proven ability to proofread and review documents for content, structure (outline),

and layout and formatting consistency;

6. Proven research skills and ability to read through and effectively synthesize large amounts of

materials that are technical in nature;

7. Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign;

8. Strong organizational skills, with a solutions-oriented approach to work;

9. Strong attention to detail;

10. An understanding of how to nurture relationships online with different types of audiences;

11. Effective, proven project and time management skills with an aptitude to always follow through on

tasks;

12. Knowledge of and interest in the global health sector preferred.
