We are looking for students who have an interest in journalism and want to gain experience and clips during their time in school while earning some extra money doing something they love. As an editorial intern, you will assist our news team (which is currently ‘virtual’ due to COVID) by writing short pieces and helping our staff with research and data collection.
Our business is covering the financial dealmaking world. Our flagship publication, Mergers & Acquisitions, has covered deals and dealmakers since 1965. Our website — www.TheMiddleMarket.com — is visited by 90%+ of the investment banking / private equity world every month. Our customers are executives at Private Equity firms, Investment Banks, Law Firms, and many other advisors and intermediaries involved in M&A. Our customers look to us to keep them informed of deals happening, data from these deals, and key figures who are making a name for themselves in the market.
The position entails a series of writing assignments and starts with the basic building block of our coverage: news briefs. These are short recaps of deals that help our readers quickly scan thru the day’s activities. Once you display a mastery of this form, we will expand your assignments to more challenging work. The number of hours you can work is negotiable based on your availability M-F. You will be asked to join our editorial team meeting each day as often as possible (school schedule permitting) and you will have regular Zoom calls with your editor for training and review purposes. Please note: while Handshake requires us to post a ‘Job Location’, this is a VIRTUAL position that can performed anywhere that has internet access.
You should have excellent writing skills and be able to work quickly, accurately and independently. Prior journalism experience is helpful but not required. You should be able to handle feedback enthusiastically and view this opportunity to learn from award-winning editors.
In your application for this position, please include a cover letter explaining why you’re interested, resume, and any clips you may already have to help us understand your current writing skills.
