This internship is being hosted by MIT Solve. Solve is an initiative of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a mission to solve world challenges. During this internship you will receive guidance and programming from Solve in addition to your host organization.
Maziwa Breast Pump is the only breast pump designed specifically for working mothers in developing markets.
You will be working on the development of our battery-powered and rechargeable breast milk cooler, as well as feasibility testing of our breast pump. You will be working with a small team from backgrounds in healthcare, consulting, marketing, international development, and engineering. Your work will have a global impact. In addition to our North American and Kenyan team, you will gain exposure to markets and consumers in Sub-Saharan Africa and manufacturers in China. You will learn to collaborate with cross- functional and international team members and gain valuable leadership and communication skills.
Seeking experience and skills in:
- Following an appropriate degree path e.g. Mechanical Engineering
- Familiarity with Electrical and Biomedical Engineering is an asset
- Knowledge of Solid Works or other 3D CAD software
- Extensive knowledge of fabrication processes
- Ability to adhere to regulatory specifications provided
- Perform physical testing on engineering prototypes
This is unfortunately an unpaid internship with a small social enterprise. While we are unable to pay you for your time, we hope this will be a fun and valuable experience to get an inside look into the work of social entrepreneurs and an organization that is making an impact on the world. This internship has a flexible start and end date, but would likely be over the summer with the possibility of extension.
