The Modern Language Association (MLA) seeks a communications and outreach intern for summer 2021 to assist with communications, social media, advocacy, and marketing tasks for the MLA’s wide range of outreach and social media programming.

Reporting principally to the MLA’s director of outreach, the communications and outreach intern will assist staff members in the office of outreach with content creation and aggregation, social media management, landing-page optimization, list development and maintenance, and data analysis. The communications and outreach intern will also perform related work as needed, as well as participate in conversations about communications and marketing strategy.

Candidates should possess strong organizational, writing, and research skills and be comfortable working with Microsoft Office and common social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. The preferred candidate would have some knowledge of graphic design using one or more of the more common graphic design programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, or Illustrator. Particular attention will be paid to candidates with a demonstrated interest in the humanities and nonprofit communications and marketing.

The communications and outreach intern will work remotely with outreach staff members and participate in regular video conferences, communicating with team members through e-mail, Slack, and our project-tracking platform.

The communications and outreach intern will receive a $960 stipend every other week. To apply, please send a résumé and cover letter by 19 March to Outreach2021@mla.org.
