Justice for Montanans AmeriCorps Project

23 AmeriCorps members in the Justice for Montanans Program serve with 7 different organizations to provide civil (non-criminal) legal assistance to low-income Montanans. Sites include Montana Legal Services Association, Supreme Court Self Help Law Centers, Office of Consumer Protection and Victim Services, the Office of the Child and Family Ombudsman, Legal Services Developer Program (Aging Services), YWCA Missoula, and Montana Fair Housing.

AmeriCorps members perform a variety of duties including working with clients, providing legal information and referrals, helping attorneys with case management, developing outreach materials and presentations, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, helping survivors of domestic violence access services, and much more. Legal experience is not necessary and all members will be trained in various skills and topics. AmeriCorps members will receive a living allowance, health insurance, and an education award at the successful completion of the term.

Positions are located throughout Montana including Billings, Bozeman, Great Falls, Butte, Helena, Missoula, and Kalispell.

Qualifications

Applicants must pass a national service criminal history check. Reasonable accommodations are available to qualified applicants upon request.

Bachelor’s degree required.

Benefits

Members receive a living allowance, health insurance, relocation allowance (up to $550), and an education award ($6,345). Members may also be eligible for student loan forbearance and childcare assistance.
