Celebrating its 32nd year, the OCA Internship Program is the organization’s signature student leadership development programs. The purpose of this program is to cultivate future leadership for the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community by providing opportunities to work in the public sector and learn about issues affecting AAPIs. Interns will learn to build relationships, meet with legislative officials, and engage in leadership development workshops.
While normally taking place in Washington, D.C., the 2021 internship will be completely virtual and remote. Interns will be placed to work full-time at a congressional office, federal agency, corporation, or nonprofit. Each Friday, interns will meet for “Sama Sama” sessions to discuss issues pertaining to AAPIs, experience workshops, and more. Interns also attend and support OCA’s Virtual Summit as well as participate in Advocacy Day, in which they will meet with congressional offices to advocate for AAPI issues. In addition to these events, interns are provided opportunities to build their professional and advocacy skills to create compassionate leaders in the AAPI community.
