Boston City Councilor At-Large Michael Flaherty is seeking motivated individuals to join his office as legislative and communications interns. As an intern in Councilor Flaherty’s office, you will gain first-hand knowledge and experience in the workings of city government, including constituent services, the City of Boston’s budget, and the Boston City Council’s legislative process.
Intern responsibilities will include drafting written materials such as press releases, creating graphics for social media, tracking and summarizing media coverage, and assisting with media inquiries and research. Other administrative duties will be assigned – including attendance of City Council sessions and committee hearings and reviewing of legislative matters – as needed.
Communications, journalism, public relations, public affairs, government and/or political science majors preferred. Qualified candidates will have an ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment with overlapping short-term and long-term deadlines; close attention to detail; exceptional writing and analytic skills; along with strong organizational skills.
