Spring 2021 – Internship Program (Academic Credit Available)

Spring 2021 Internship Applications will be accepted until December 28th, 2020. After which, we will begin taking Summer 2021 Internship Applications on a rolling basis.

New York State Assembly District 30

Interns will primarily work in groups and independently to push NY State legislation and coordinate free services for constituents as well as serving as liaisons with the NYC Council, NY State Senate, Office of the Mayor, the Office of the Governor, NYPD, FDNY, local schools, the Office of the Queens Borough President, NYC Department of Buildings, NYC Department of Transportation, NYC Department of Parks, the MTA, ConEdison, Community Boards, the Commission on Human Rights, the Office of Immigrant Affairs, the NY Mets, NY Knicks, Arthur Ashe Stadium, the Public Theater, the Museum of the Moving Image, and others.

Selected Interns will assist in:

· Meeting with community, civic, and advocacy groups

· Policy & data research

· Coordinating community based projects, events, and initiatives

· Drafting & gathering support for New York State Assembly legislation

· Drafting and sending constituent support letters to government agencies

· Day-to-day office administration

Selected Interns will obtain professional experience and/or workshop training in:

· The Ins and Outs of New York City and New York State Government.

· Public Speaking & Speech Writing

· Strategic Communication

· Professional Etiquette (office, phone, e-mail, social media, and networking)

· Organizational Change Initiatives

· Event & Project Management

· Self-Advocacy and Self-Care

The Assembly District Office is accepting applications for part-time internships with a minimum of 12 hours per week (Mondays-Saturdays), and a maximum of 15.

Fellowship in Public Affairs (2 Semesters)

New York State Assembly District 30

-Long Island City, Astoria, Sunnyside, Woodside, Maspeth, Middle Village, Elmhurst-

Graduate and Undergraduate Fellows will partake in the full range of activities of a demanding, and fun, Assembly District Office. The program is offered in the Assembly Member’s District Office in Maspeth, Queens. This program emphasizes a more focused & practical hand-on experience within 1 or 2 specific fields (see below) designed for a career in the specified field(s) of policy.

One Fellow or Legislative Intern will be selected for one or two of following fields:

· Aging & Seniors

· Housing Policy

· Homeless Services

· Immigration Policy

· Education Policy

· Environmental Policy

· Animal Rights

· Labor

· Small Business

· Public Transportation & Buildings

· Sports & Entertainment

Selected Fellows will assist in:

· Monitoring and drafting legislation in their assigned field(s)

· Meeting with community, civic, and advocacy groups in their assigned field(s)

· Coordinating community based projects, events, and initiatives

· Drafting and sending constituent support letters to government agencies in their assigned field(s)

· Day-to-day office administration

If accepted, we are more than willing to work with your university to help fulfill academic requirements for an Internship.

*This is an unpaid internship; as the New York State Assembly is a government entity, this program falls in compliance with any Department of Labor standard or guideline.
