Assistant/Associate Editor BLACK LIVES MATTER Section – 5 hours/week for Assistant Editor Position and 7 hours/week for Associate Editor Position

Check with your Internship Coordinator BEFORE accepting to determine how you might do this internship for credit.

Picture This Post magazine, www.picturethispost.com, alerts time-strapped readers to cultural offerings that are the best match for their interests in art, books, dance, film, museums, music, theater, as well as travel with a focus on culture. We not only cover culture creators and venues with high name recognition, but also delight in helping to showcase bold, creative strokes by fledgling artists in all genres.

As Assistant Editor for our BLACK LIVES MATTER Editorial Team, you will learn how to curate interviews, usually via email, and help to identify thought leaders for profile in our growing George Floyd: In Memoriam section.

Additionally, Assistant Editors will learn how to layout articles in the magazine using our modified WordPress automation; how to publicize these stories in social media, networking with the culture creators profiled in each article; how to conduct professional correspondence to obtain information/assets needed for your stories; and how to create Readers’ Calendar entries showcasing these previews.

Associate Editors for our BLACK LIVES MATTER Editorial Team, in addition to the above, will receive more in-depth layout training, and learn to use a popular journalist automation system to create tailored news feeds to help with content curation.

Your responsibilities, for either position, will also include submitting weekly reports to the Editor-in-Chief as well as your upcoming weekly schedule projections.

Please Note: ALL Picture This Post editors and writers are volunteers—from top to bottom. There is not a paid internship opportunity

Time commitment for the Assistant Editor position is 5 hours/week per semester.

Associate Editor is 7 hours/ week—in all cases, except for weeks needing time-off to study for exams and other school/life priorities, pre-arranged with the Editor-in-Chief.

This position is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in putting their energies toward showcasing culture creators involved in meaningful anti-racism work.
