About the role

Data science is at the heart of our products, augmenting existing water heaters with intelligence. Using data from both our existing rapidly scaling fleet of internet-connected devices and an advanced custom simulation rig, the Data Science Intern will apply data science skills like data cleaning, data wrangling, machine learning and optimization in the following areas:

• Data analysis: drawing out insights from data to better understand user behavior and gain business insight
• Modeling and prediction: building and improving models for user behavior and system performance
• Productizing: based on outcomes of analysis and performance of models, helping productize selected new features and improvements

While this internship is expected to be remote, Plentify will sponsor visas and flights to Cape Town if Covid allows and the candidate is interested. If not, Plentify will sponsor a future trip to Cape Town (along with the rest of the intern class) to experience our city and see the impact of your work. Candidates are encouraged to coordinate with their universities for additional funding (which is often available for internships with social enterprises).

Required qualifications

• Strong statistical and / or mathematical foundation, for example with a degree towards Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or Data Science
• Pursuing a Master Degree in a relevant field from a top-tier school
• 1+ year of experience in a technical field
• Proficient in Python, preferably with experience using Pandas, Numpy, machine learning and visualization libraries
• Analytical, structured thinker who is able to communicate concisely
• Foundational knowledge of thermodynamics and electronics is a plus
