About the Organization:

Population Connection helps make the connection between the world’s population and the consumption of our planet’s resources. As the nation’s largest grassroots population organization, Population Connection’s strength lies in its ability to build grassroots support for its public policy agenda, including:

· Increased funding for global reproductive health and international family planning, including support for UNFPA;

· Global policies that expand access to voluntary family planning services;

· A permanent legislative ban of the deadly Global Gag Rule and,

· Repeal of the Helms Amendment

We work with communities across the country to create a dialogue around reproductive health and rights and population issues, recruit and train advocates, and support access to international family planning. The field team works to engage supporters and activists about the critical need for a robust U.S. investment in affordable, effective, and safe contraceptives for people around the globe.

About the Role:

The Grassroots Advocacy and Outreach Fellow will work directly with the Senior Director, Advocacy and Outreach, the National Field Manager, and the Field Team to support our public policy agenda and our efforts to mobilize our grassroots base to advocate for effective policies.

The Fellow will assist with an ongoing grassroots effort in priority areas of the country. This entails assisting with the planning and promotion of events in these locations and doing outreach to relevant individuals and organizations, to build support for international reproductive health and rights. Note: Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, all of our organizing work is currently virtual, and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

Other tasks include supporting Population Connection members and volunteers throughout the country with their local activism. Additionally, the Fellow will be responsible for some administrative tasks. Looking for self-starters with strong communication skills, problem solving skills, and campaign or organizing experience.

– This is an entry level, paid fellowship.

– This is a full-time, temporary position with a 6-month term and the possibility for extension.

– The fellow will be paid $1,650 before taxes every two weeks ($42,900 annualized). Start date is Flexible, but preferred start date from mid-February – early-March.

– Benefits include paid holidays, vacation, sick leave, health insurance, and subsidized transit benefit.

Primary Responsibilities:

· Draft materials, resources, and tools to assist activists and volunteers in key communities and states across the country including digital action alerts, infographics, and advocacy and outreach tools to assist with ongoing grassroots effort in targeted locations.

· Assist with planning and promotion of special events, speaking engagements, and community and public events, including our largest annual advocacy event, Capitol Hill Days.

· Schedule Capitol Hill Days participant appointments with Senate and House offices, help to coordinate key speakers and presentations, and aid in organizing the event.

· Support online organizing and social media including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and digital advocacy tools.

· Provide support to the field team on travel to target states to engage in on-the-ground grassroots advocacy efforts. Currently N/A.

· Administration of outreach programs such as inventory and shipment of materials, and extensive database management.

The Ideal Candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications:

· Demonstrated commitment to reproductive rights, including safe abortion, as well as an interest in environmental issues or global policy

· Background in advocacy and/or political campaigns or grassroots organizing and outreach

· Experience with event planning

· Experience with social media management and/or digital organizing

· Excellent oral, interpersonal and written communication skills

· Independent self-starter with sound judgment

· Willing to attend evening and weekend events, sometimes involving travel (currently N/A)

Other Desired Qualifications:

· Experience working remotely a plus
