The .4 FTE social worker will provide individual, group, and crisis counseling for students. The social worker will be given a caseload commensurate with working two days per week Position is through the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
The primary purpose of the School Adjustment Counselor/Social Worker is to help students resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered them. Works collaboratively with parents to implement in-home training programs when appropriate.
•Performs casework service with individual students to correct those personal, social, or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
•Performs casework service with parents to increase the parents’ understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child’s problems, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
•Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student’s behavior.
•Supervises the referral of students to, and serves as liaison with, such outside agencies as the Welfare Department, Child Placement Bureau, and Juvenile Court, as appropriate.
•Attend meetings (IEP, 504, transition, other) to help create plan for child success.
•Makes home visits for the purpose of gathering helpful information on a student’s background.
•Serves as liaison between home and school when considerable follow-up is necessary, as in welfare cases, foster home children, and disadvantaged students.
•Assists students directly toward adjustment to school.
•Conducts individual, group, or facilitates therapy for diagnosed students who would benefit from behavior modification.
•Reports progress and completes all documentation associated with services provided to students.
•Keeps sufficient records of cases for use by school staff members and outside agencies when appropriate.
•Serves as a resource for other school personnel regarding adjustment situations.
•Participates in in-service training programs.
•Keeps current on new developments in the field.
•Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal or Director of Special Education

- •Massachusetts Department of Education Educator’s Certification as a school social workers/school adjustment counselor.
- •A minimum of a Master’s in Social Work preferred
- •Knowledge of laws relating to children preferred
- •Experience in counseling children and parents preferred
- •Knowledge of community resources for children and parents preferred.
- •Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills
- At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
- Master degree preferred
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
