Sanctuary for Families is dedicated to the safety, healing and self-determination of victims of domestic violence and related forms of gender violence. Through comprehensive services for our clients and their children, and through outreach, education and advocacy, we strive to create a world in which freedom from gender violence is a basic human right.
The Immigration Intervention Project (IIP) within Sanctuary for Families is recruiting for spring interns to join our team. Within the legal team in IIP, we also provide case management services to our clients, led by two case managers. The interns’ responsibilities will include: screening clients for case management needs, making appropriate referrals for housing, counseling, education, and medical treatment, enrollment in public benefits, enrollment in unemployment benefits, assistance in applying for and receiving various food and cash grants, among other client needs as they arise. The ideal intern has a demonstrated interest or passion in working in the public interest field, namely with survivors of domestic violence and other forms of gender-based violence. Spanish is highly preferred as the majority of our case management clients are Spanish-speaking. We hope for a ten hour commitment per week, but can be flexible.
The CM intern can be a college student who is interested in a career in social services and maybe is unsure of what route they would want to take, there would be no legal work here. Also, for this role, they supervised by a LCSW, so this would not ideal for a student who needs that kind of supervision for credit.
