Shapiro Haber & Urmy LLP, a small plaintiff-side class action litigation law firm, seeks a
Legal Assistant/Paralegal. The firm is involved in complex litigation against large
companies. We require our employees to possess superior intellect, strong attention to detail,
and the ability to multitask.
We are looking for a bright, responsible, independent-thinking person with an interest in the
law. Many of our former Legal Assistant/Paralegals have gone on to law school. Applicants
must have strong research and computer skills as well as an ability to learn on the job.
The role of Legal Assistant/Paralegal involves multiple responsibilities, including:
Conducting factual research using online resources such as Lexis Advance, CourtLink and
Reviewing documents obtained in discovery;
Summarizing deposition or trial transcripts;
Reviewing and organizing case documents for depositions and court hearings;
Assisting attorneys at depositions and court hearings;
Proofread and cite-check complaints and briefs;
Electronically file documents with courts;
Downloading court filings from Electronic Court Filings;
General administrative tasks including typing and red-lining legal pleadings and
correspondence, preparing client bills, maintaining computer files and answering phones;
Maintaining calendars and time entries for attorneys;
Respond to new case inquiries and investigate potential claims;
Communicate with members of classes we represent;
Strong attention to detail;
Ability to multi-task and successfully manage time and responsibilities;
Must be proactive and able to work without direct supervision;
Excellent communication skills;
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
Experience as a litigation paralegal desirable, but not required.
Bachelor’s degree required.
