THE ORGANIZATION

The Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding promotes mutual respect with practical programs that bridge religious difference and combat prejudice in areas of armed conflict, schools, workplaces, and health care settings. Tanenbaum is a secular and non-sectarian organization.

Students should consult with academic faculty to determine if this unpaid experience will earn credit.

THE PROGRAM

Tanenbaum’s Education program provides resources and professional development opportunities to K-12 educators that help them promote respect for religious diversity and create inclusive learning environments. Our resources include a variety of literacy-based, Common Core aligned, and academically integrated curricula and downloadable lesson plans. We offer professional development in the form of in-person trainings and free live webinars.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Education Intern reports to the Education Program Associate, and will work at least 10-15 hours weekly with the Education program staff.

He or she will support all aspects of the program, including resource dissemination, marketing and development of in-person trainings and webinars, and outreach to potential partner organizations. In addition, the intern will conduct online research, data analysis and data tracking support.

The Education Intern would assist with any of the following projects:

· Monitoring and Evaluation of the Education Program

· Scheduling educator trainings

· Disseminating downloadable lesson plans and informational resources via themed e-blasts

· Drafting blog posts on teaching about religious diversity for publication on Tanenbaum’s web site and for partner organizations

· Working with program staff to modify existing curricula and selectively develop new content

· Developing training materials on implementing Tanenbaum’s curricula for online delivery

· Researching trends affecting the teaching of religion in various educational settings

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS

· Commitment to the mission and goals of Tanenbaum

· An educator, graduate student, or college student (at least in year 3) in a relevant subject area, such as Education, Social Studies, or Religious Studies

· An interest in or facility with teaching

· Some classroom experience as a K-12 educator is preferable but not essential

· A background in quantitative and qualitative data analysis and survey research

· Ability to work 10-15 hours a week during regular office hours (9:30 am-5:30 pm)

· Knowledge of current theories and standards in elementary, middle and high school education

· Strong interreligious and multicultural skills

· Strong research, writing and editing skills

· Lesson planning experience is a plus

· Organized and adept at multi-tasking

· Creative thinker

· Ability to work collaboratively and independently

· Computer skills including MS PowerPoint/Word/Excel and internet research

· College experience minimum or equivalent

· Sense of humor

All work produced for Tanenbaum by the intern is the work product of Tanenbaum and may not be used by the intern outside of Tanenbaum-authorized activities.
