This summer, Team4Tech is offering a unique virtual / remote internship opportunity to a team of university students to support our nonprofit partners in Africa. For students interested in education, technology, and/or international development, who want to gain real world skills in helping devise and deliver remote solutions to educational NGOs, this is a valuable opportunity.
The eight-week project will kick off June 14 and end August 6, with an expectation of at 10-15 hours of work per week. Students will be guided by Team4Tech staff through a human-centered design process as they work with our NGO partner. Read more about the program here: https://www.team4tech.org/university-partners/
The team of interns will likely include students from top universities around the United States, creating an excellent networking opportunity.
The Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology (GGAST) is a boarding school for 270 girls, located in the Gashora sector of Rwanda, an hour south of the capital city of Kigali. Their vision is for their students to become inspired young leaders filled with confidence, a love of learning, and a sense of economic empowerment to strengthen their communities and foster Rwanda’s growth. 100% of their graduates get scholarships to attend university abroad, including the USA. This will be Team4Tech’s fifth engagement with GGAST.
Potential project workstreams:
- Mentoring of teams working on their science and technology-focused capstone projects
- University application support and general higher education planning mentorship for girls
- Presentations to teachers and students on topics of interns’ interest and expertise.
As part of the summer program, interns will be led through our leadership development curriculum by Team4Tech Program Directors. This curriculum was designed in partnership with leading technology companies to develop key leadership capabilities that they find are critical to their employees’ development and success. Important parts of an internship abroad are learning about another culture, acquiring cross cultural skills to adapt to a globalized world, working in a challenging and unfamiliar environment, and developing new friendships. Our virtual project experience will teach interns about working in cross cultural, remote, and global teams. Furthermore, we will expose the interns to the cultures of our nonprofit partners through speakers, readings, and films. Finally, we will give the interns an opportunity to develop friendships with the students and teachers engaged with our NGO partners.
Desired Intern Skills & Experience:
- Interest in or experience designing and conducting technical training
- Interest in working with and mentoring young learners / high school students
- Interest in working in a developing country

Please note: Students participating in the Team4Tech internship program are responsible for a $2000 contribution. Many students receive funding and scholarships from their universities to participate in the Team4Tech internship program. This contribution supports Team4Tech’s mission of improving the quality of education for underserved learners through technology and training to empower them with the skills for educational and economic success. Contributions also support Team4Tech’s Education Impact Fund, from which we make grants to our nonprofit partners around the world. Those grants are used to buy hardware and software which Team4Tech projects help implement. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, all contributions are tax-deductible.
